"Human identity is no longer defined by what one does, but by what one owns. But we’ve discovered that owning things and consuming things does not satisfy our longing for meaning."
He was right then, and he's still right now.
The ferkakte Texas ballots from the 40s still blow our minds. You had to go through and cross out the names of everyone *except* who you intended to vote for. -OS
A Lynchburg Circuit Court judge ruled to keep the original injunction in place on universal background checks. The. Virginia State Police website has been updated
From Sen. Tillis' questioning of Sec. Bessent at Senate Finance:
"Did you actually tell [Bill] Pulte you were going to punch him in the face?"
"No sir, I actually said I was going to kick his ass."
"Good...I share the emotion."
Posting my draft of “Discovering the Historical Anglo-American Constitution.”
I trace birthright citizenship from the 1100s to the 1770s and show that the English common-law rule of natural-born subjects was always tied to territory and jurisdiction.

This Tyson's Office complex just sold for $15M which is 87% less than its price of $120M in 2016 - the Fairfax County commercial office market is not healthy and we need a real plan to grow tax revenue in Fairfax County with something other than commercial real estate
I think this is a reprehensible choice
But it’s notable that Republicans currently have a congressman who secretly converted to Islam and was married to his wife by an extremist imam, Muhammad Al-Hanooti, who was a co-conspirator in the WTC attacks
Republicans get the wrong Zach in Iowa.
Zach Wahls loses to Josh Turek on the Democratic side, and far-right candidate Zach Lahn beats incumbent congressman Randy Feenstra, despite Feenstra having a Trump endorsement.
Worst two outcomes Republicans could have hoped for. Yikes.
My name is Josh Turek. I am a 2-time gold medalist, 4-time Paralympian in wheelchair basketball, one of the first permanently disabled members of the Iowa House, and I am honored to be Iowa's Democratic nominee for United States Senate.

@FIfififif7246@bryceinTO Yes we did our nation building wars pre1865. Belleau wood ≠ Vimy. But the first war was the shift when the U.S. became a great power. And we too still commemorate the 11th of November. Just because it means one thing to you doesn’t mean it doesn’t mean something to us.
While studying abroad, I ended up among a group of Canadians meeting some eurocrat from the European Commission.
He was told he was meeting Canadian university students.
First thing he said was “glad I’m meeting Canadians and not American, otherwise I’d have to bring a map”
American tourists in Cancun and Toronto are probably 70th percentile cosmopolitan
In Western Europe probably 90th percentile
It’s interesting because in Germany people were constantly surprised that my American group could read a map and be aware of the world
@FIfififif7246@bryceinTO I find the idea of an American in Western Europe being unaware of some number of First or Second World War battle sites quite laughable. Many many Americans go to Europe precisely to visit those cemeteries and battlefields!
PM Carney tells immigrants to leave behind the feuds of their homelands:
"We don't welcome the world's hatreds"
"When you come to Canada you bring your faith, your tradition, your language, your story - you leave behind your animosities"
