Four years ago today, Ali Mufuruki, a prominent Tanzanian entrepreneur, philanthropist, intellectual and public speaker died at the age of 61.

A brilliant mind, he often challenged popular wisdom and simplistic assumptions about economics in Tanzania and elsewhere in Africa.

He previously served on the Board of the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) where he was elected the first-ever independent chairman of the central bank's audit committee.

Mufuruki graduated with a https://t.co/HgT5S7Bnrv. in Mechanical Design Engineering from Reutlingen University, Germany, but was widely respected as one of the sharpest minds in Tanzania on business and the economy.

In this eloquent public speech, Mufuruki challenged the popular narrative of "Africa is rising."
