3 fresh GI tags awarded to Bihar:
(1) Nalanda's Bawan Booti saree
(2) Gaya's Patharkatti stonecraft
(3) Bhojpur's Pidhia painting
Bihar's other GI tagged products are: Madhubani Painting, Bhagalpuri Silk, Sikki Craft, Sujini Embroidery, Khatwa Appliqué, Manjusha Art, Shahi Litchi, Jardalu Mango, Katarni Rice, Magahi Paan, Marcha Rice (Marcha Chura), Mithila Makhana & Silao Khaja
Bihar has been a slow mover in acquiring GI tags. Many products like Gaya's famous Tilkut, Runni Saidpur's Balushahi, Hajipur's Chiniya Kela, Khurma - are still awaiting GI status... Hope the state will pick up the pace.
Tomorrow, 29th May is a landmark day for the people of Bihar and Patna in particular. This great city will get a new passenger terminal which can handle bigger volumes of traffic. The people of Bihar have been waiting for this for many years. The foundation stone for a new civil enclave of Bihta Airport will also be laid. These initiatives will lead to better connectivity and will boost commerce.
The golden period for Indian media happened during the long era of coalition governments.
Allies within the government gave out information to journalists.
And since minority govts are less centralised, ministers from the same party, often leaked info against each other.
Babus - and their cliques - felt more empowered and could leak documents to the press, if they felt unhappy with certain policies.
Stories were planted constantly, in an intricate game of governmentality and politics.
Journalists were both the pawns and the Queen on this chessboard of power.
Pawns, because they were playing someone else's game.
Queens, because they themselves acquired great proximity to power, without having to kowtow in front of the powerful.
The tireless efforts of Noida anchors to poison every festival of minorities, to demonise those going for iftaar parties that haven’t been organised by sarkari Muslims, to criminalise Muslims offering prayers, to cheer on mean spirited and vicious state actions against Muslims during their festivals is nauseating. The biggest damage to India and its citizens is being done by Noida channels.
