I teased it last week and announce it fully today: our fully online graduate certificate in Structured Literacy and Reading Science will begin accepting applications on November 1 for a summer 2023 start! Very happy to be able to announce this in Dyslexia and DLD Awareness month!
On October 27, join us for a presentation and Q&A with Jo-Anne Henry, pictured below, as we celebrate the legacy of her mother Violet King Henry (‘53 LLB). Violet was one of only four women in her class and became the faculty's first Black graduate. (1/2) @UAlbertaAlumni

@cspotweet Also: no such thing as “the endemic stage”. Endemic means consistently present in a population over long periods of time. It does not mean “less bad than a pandemic”. Malaria, dengue & yellow fever are all endemic in parts of Africa & Asia. 100000s get sick from them each year.
A few of my colleagues have noted, “You seem a bit more critical of the provincial government on Twitter these days.”
It’s incumbent on all of us to call out public policy that deliberately divides and disparages people, and that makes our most vulnerable worse off.
Many a Western Canadian premier has regretted asking questions like this about changing licence plate slogans. Gary Doer (swap "Friendly Manitoba" with "spirited energy"), Alison Redford (remove "Wild Rose Country") Brad Wall (remove wheat). Symbols are powerful.
Another reason #universities are vitally necessary: bastions of unbiased, cutting-edge knowledge, AND the ability to speak truths, even in challenging circumstances:
Popping in to report that you all are amazing. In less than one week, you have donated over $15,000 to the @UANativeStudies faculty in honour of @danjlevy ‘s birthday.
Insert every David Rose gif of shock and love to know how we feel right now.
