My latest piece in @newlinesmag reflecting on the complex relationship between the Jewish-American community & #Israel & whether this relationship can survive in its current form #ShireenAbuAkleh’s killing if there is no accountability/justice for her or the #Palestinian people
NEW: Peace is necessary for Palestinians and Jews alike — we must start by demanding accountability for the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh. A personal reflection on being Jewish American by @SSiminoff for @newlinesmag https://t.co/V3UUtH88Zl
The United Nations has just issued a statement condemning the obstruction of humanitarian operations in Gaza by Hamas militias.
Give it a few hours, and the same people who spent years insisting the UN is the most credible source on everything happening in Gaza will suddenly start calling it a "Zionist organization."
It's amazing how the UN is credible only when it says something they agree with.
On the eve of a long-awaited debate about banning trade with Israel's illegal settlements, the European Union is dragging its feet over upholding international law. https://t.co/seeVAzB58N
You are lying @havivrettiggur. The Jerusalem Post, which leans right, concluded that it was not a closed zone & vigilante settlers had no right to detain Americans. Stop gaslighting Americans. https://t.co/agZkUMausn
Palestinian pediatrician Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya is being held and reportedly tortured in an Israeli prison with no charges, no trial and no Due Process. Netanyahu's government must immediately release him from these lawless, horrific and life-threatening conditions.
The fact that Paramount is big enough that they think a threat to boycott California would scare their AG into not suing to stop their merger…is not helpful in their argument that their market power post-merger won’t be a problem! https://t.co/HhPhKS4xt1
The Trump administration wants to soften one of the strongest legal protections American workers have over their retirement.
“What they have done is lower the standard for everything,” said one former senior official at the Department of Labor.

🚨UPDATE: People managed to reach the house and put out the fire. Later, the Israeli army stormed the village, fired tear gas and live ammunition at residents gathered at the house, injuring two people.
Elon Musk’s cuts to U.S.A.I.D. led to some 700,000 deaths, according to Atul Gawande, a former leading administrator at the agency. Gawande, backed by recent academic studies, believes that the death toll will likely reach seven figures. The policy is not only immeasurably cruel, he argues; it is also stupid, badly undermining what remains of American soft power and prestige.
Israeli settlers attacked a CNN news crew, journalists and activists during a visit to Sinjil in the occupied West Bank, smashing a vehicle's windshield, hurling stones at the convoy and attempting to slash a tyre.
The group had travelled with Kamel Musallet to the site where his son, Saif Musallet, was killed by Israeli settlers one year ago. As they left the area, the settlers chased their vehicles back towards the town, forcing them to flee.
A journalist at the scene said the shattered windshield demonstrated the extreme danger Palestinians face when trying to access land that has been occupied by Israeli settlers since last April, warning the consequences could have been even more deadly had Palestinians attempted to return to their own land.

American media and politicians claim that new legislation does NOT merge the U.S. and Israeli militaries. Meanwhile Netanyahu, who has taken credit for proposing the measure, clearly says it does:
“Will that drawing down of foreign aid be compensated by the proposal to have a merging of some sort between our Pentagon and your military?"
"Yeah, I'm calling it, 'From aid to partnership.’”
He then lays out what it would look like:
Netanyahu is simply lying here when he says there has been transparency about these killings.
We have been seeking justice for 9 Americans, including Saif Musallet, killed by settlers or Israeli security forces on the West Bank in the last 4 years.
In none of these deaths has justice been served.
AIPAC poured $ millions into helping Stevens defeat Andy Levin because they didn't like his "Two-State Solution Act" and they knew Stevens could be relied on to just keep giving it lip service without doing anything about it, just as she does here.
If a U.S. Congressman can be forcibly detained by Israeli settlers in the West Bank, what do you think is happening to the Palestinians who live there?
Sadly, we know the answer.
Despite massive campaign spending by AIPAC, members of Congress must be very clear. NO MORE U.S. MILITARY AID TO THE EXTREMIST NETANYAHU GOVERNMENT.
You are absolutely right Joe. I will be sharing a video of the Mayor of Beit Sahour, Christian majority town, where he talks about not being able to stage the Passion of Christ play because of an illegal settlement that is being built.
