The Odyssey movie has a very clear political agenda which I found particularly compelling. The main themes that really resonated with me were:
1) The inability of Odysseus to return home was explained ultimately by PTSD and guilt over war crimes. Instead of being stopped by the Gods only, Odysseus spends seven years eating the lotus flower to forget. The moment he stops, Troy comes back and he has to look at what he did, the slaughter of the innocents in Troy.
2) The plot referenced the "sea people" repeatedly as a threat to Greek culture and society but it was the war crimes and lack of scruples of the Greeks that destroyed the culture and Zeus' law on which society is built. The civilization is destroyed by the gift of the Trojan Horse, which defies all laws of decency and hospitality in Greek tradition in a shameful desire to win, and that is exploited for rape and murder.
3) Winning war is meaningless since it comes at the expense of destroying yourself and your own morals. Lupita plays both Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, the latter butchers Agamemnon for sacrificing her child, Menelaus recovers Helen but has scarred her face himself. Troy is destroyed and along with it everyone and everything else.
Nolan completely stood the Odyssey on its head, where Odysseus is held back by an angry god and only his crew are destroyed by their own recklessness, and showed that humans create their own fate and their thirst for war, blood and power makes it a bitter one.
The meta maafi (apology) last week and its continuing fallout is a great place to focus on what, for me at least, is the most pressing issue in the legal regime dealing with all things tech in india — grievance redressal, esp when your grievance is exercise of power by govt

It's incredibly important to understand this: rape is not rape because it's violent, it's rape because a woman did not agree to or want a finger, a penis or an object inserted into her and it was done anyway. That is rape.
“Fierce” better describes @CMarrewa’s story: when she told me, with stomach-churning detail and honesty, how MF raped her. He was sentenced to 7 years in jail. But the sentence was overturned on the basis that “no” doesn’t always mean no in India. MF was out in ~18 months.
@_sabanaqvi's use of "lands in jail" is an interesting choice. As if he had no part in what he did. The use of passive language is sadly telling in the way she chooses to report on events. For someone who works on such important topics, her lack of integrity presents a problem.
You better keep your mouth shut, my friend. You have been a direct beneficiary of this woman's token scheme. She joined the university in 2022, and you came in 2024. You should be ashamed of defending this!
