The Terengganu government has proposed a two-year closure of four snorkelling and diving sites around Pulau Redang after more than 80% of their coral reefs were damaged.

The affected sites are Pasir Akar, Pulau Lima, Pulau Paku Besar and Pulau Ekor Tebu, with the damage linked to climate change and human activities, including tourists stepping on corals and boats anchoring on reefs.

Malaysia’s property overhang is growing, with 33,094 completed residential units worth RM17.78 billion left unsold in the first half of 2026, compared to the 30,471 unsold units worth RM17.73 billion for the whole of last year.

Affordable and mid-priced homes are making up an increasing share of the overhang, adding the need for developers to better assess demand before launching new projects, said Finance Minister Amir Hamzah.
