Ilhan Omar's office called today's search of her home "unprecedented." Bernie called it authoritarian. One federal judge signed the warrant. Zero doors got kicked in. And the precedent they forgot involves $90,000 in a congressman's freezer and gold bars in a senator's closet.
What actually happened: before dawn Monday, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant at Omar's D.C.-area home. DOJ confirmed it on the record. Fox's reporter on the block said nobody knocked down doors and nobody came in with weapons drawn. Agents were there about four hours and left with boxes. Sources say it involves immigration paperwork from her childhood. No charges.
What they said:
o Omar's office: "an unprecedented escalation"
o Bernie Sanders: "Trump is an authoritarian"
o Elizabeth Warren: "a dangerous abuse of power"
o Rep. Delia Ramirez: "We must dismantle DHS"
o Hasan Piker: "the american democracy project might be totally over"
That's a 12-piece bucket of stupid, served hot.
Now the precedent. 2005: the FBI searched Democratic Rep. William Jefferson's home and found $90,000 in his freezer. January 2022: agents searched Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar's home about six weeks before his primary. June 2022: agents searched Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez's home and found about $486,000 in gold bars and cash. All court-authorized. Two convictions.
Unprecedented, apparently, means "happened to a Democrat three times before and nobody burned down the republic."
And "dismantle DHS"? DHS also runs the Secret Service, the Coast Guard, TSA and FEMA. Somebody in that caucus has a leak in the think tank.
Authoritarians don't ask a judge for permission first. They don't confirm the search on the record the same morning. And they don't lose in their own courts.
To be fair, a search is not a conviction. If the paperwork is clean, I'll say so out loud. Even duct tape can't fix stupid, but evidence can fix a rumor.
But what do I know, I'm only a teacher who checks the precedent before grading the word "unprecedented."
So answer one question for me, Democrats: if a judge-signed warrant on a Democrat is authoritarian, what was the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago in August 2022?
Since becoming a Brewer, William Contreras has fully embraced Milwaukee: âThree years ago, my agent calls and tells me, âAtlanta traded you.â I told him: âTrade me back.â Iâm like, âMILWAUKEE?! OK. Nobody talk to me.â Nah â itâs just crazy to be traded like that. Crazy. I barely understood what a trade means. But what choice do you have? So I try to accept it. I try to think, William. Be honest. What you KNOW about Milwaukee? Yes, for a Venezuelan kid, and even just coming from Atlanta, itâs a different world, a different culture. But then I get here, and I get to know things.⊠Itâs an amazing place. The organization, the fans, itâs such a great baseball city. Funny how it changes. Now if I think about that trade, I got lucky....
OK â so there is this saying in football (âsoccerâ here). It goes: The ball is round. And what it means is: The game is unpredictable. For example, say itâs the offseason. Teams are making moves. Huge trades, huge signings. Sure. But hereâs the thing. Itâs only the offseason. Once the real season starts, once the ball starts bouncing? ANYTHING can happen. Most times, it bounces in favor of the big cities. Teams with the biggest investments, the biggest talent. But sometimes it doesnât. Sometimes, the ball just bounces another way. You canât explain it, canât predict it, canât pay for it ⊠you can only go out there and play. Itâs just a ball, you know what Iâm saying?? The ball is round....
Itâs funny ⊠I still have a little regret, years later, for being rude to my agent about the trade. âMILWAUKEE?!â Wow. What a wrong way to react. Now, I hope I spend my whole career here â and I hope to be on the first World Series winner in Brewers history. Itâll happen, I bet. Itâs like Bob [Uecker] always said: âNo one better than you.â Well actually, Bob, probably some are better than me! Iâm not the best. None of our group is. But if youâre telling me another team is the best??? Man, I swear. I havenât seen them. No one better than Milwaukee right now. No one better than US.â https://t.co/vmnVU6McVb

Remember, the Democrats being mad about Trumpâs diesel deal with Putin are saying you should pay higher diesel prices to help Ukraine in its war. Last week they were saying you shouldnât pay higher diesel prices to help the United States in its war against the country thatâs murdered or named thousands of Americans.
Just wanted to make sure weâre all clear on how this works.
