Me: Hold on. Just listen to my question. If you absolutely had to achieve that goal, and it absolutely had to be done, what things would you change so that you could get it done?

The work we put in to achieve our goals is not glamorous at all. It actually kind of sucks. It’s hard. It takes sacrifice. You have to sacrifice things in order to get what you want. Even things that are really important to you.

You only have 24 hours in a day. You can’t do everything that you’d like to do. So use your time wisely and do the things that are most important to you. There are going to be things that you’re not going to be able to do, and you’re going to have to be okay with that.

My teenager: Growing up is hard.

Me: But it’s also fun because you can do whatever you want.

I went to Brooker’s for the first time last night (delicious, quirky, great customer service). I would have loved to sit in on the meeting where they pitched that business plan.

Big drama last night in Mckinney Texas at a public hearing over a muslim group wanting a MOSQUE seeking permits to build on 5 acres... Fight broke out. Former mayor was arrested. the city council whining and boobing about it..afraid to say no. Elon Musk was asked in an interview what he looks for in a partner.

He said "someone who won't leave when it gets hard."

Then he stopped. Like he had said something more honest than he intended. The interviewer waited. Elon continued, slower. He said every relationship he's had followed the same curve. Intense beginning. Gradual withdrawal as work demands increase. The partner feels abandoned. The partner leaves or he detaches until they leave.

He said what he wants but has never found is someone who understands that the withdrawal isn't about them. That the silence isn't rejection. That the 2am factory visits aren't an escape from the relationship but a compulsion he can't control. Someone who can sit in the silence of his absence and still be there when he surfaces.

He said he knows this is an unreasonable thing to ask of another person. To love someone who disappears for weeks into a factory and returns expecting the warmth to still be there. He called it "asking someone to love a ghost that occasionally becomes solid."

The interviewer asked if he thinks that person exists. Elon said "I hope so" in a voice that carried the specific weight of a man who has searched five times and been wrong every time but hasn't stopped believing the answer is yes.

The richest man alive looking for the same thing every human looks for. Someone who stays. The only difference is that his version of "hard" involves six companies, twelve children, and a mind that won't stop running long enough to be present. And every woman who has tried has eventually discovered that staying requires a tolerance for absence that no amount of love can sustain indefinitely.
