Just 5-10 fatalities by shark attack every year.
Despite this, over 150 shark movies have been produced since 1980.
When an attack happens, front page news and the shark is hunted down.
Result? People are frightened of sharks.
As a cyclist account, why do I post this?
@IPhillips79 This track encapsulated the change of direction of The Shamen. Listen to En-tact , their earlier album. Early Electronic music with soul and calm flair that was lacking in this tune.
You get what you invite.
Invite cars everywhere, you get traffic.
Invite cycling, you get people outdoors, moving, connecting, thriving 🚲
Love seeing how popular cycling has become, proof that healthier, greener ways of living are exactly what many want! 💚🚲
We need to stop calling these 'accidents.' This was a choice. She traded everything for a 3 second notification. Reality doesn’t care about your excuses.
One of the many reasons why I love Spike Milligan: this response of his to hearing a letter from King Charles (then The Prince of Wales) being read aloud to him at the 1994 British Comedy Awards ceremony.
@MPIainDS Unfortunately, prioritising accidents by cyclists does absolutely nothing proportionally to reduce KSI's on our roads. but you congratulate yourself on the, on average, ONE person per year the new law will actually put away. whilst 000's are seriously hurt by motor vehicles.
@Librarymaid@but_cyclists@GBNEWS Awful to read that. So sorry. The imbalance on sentencing is getting worse, and I'm sure that there's an official body that is looking these cases. just can't remember who it is.
@KemiBadenoch@Conservatives@RicHolden Just on por holes . 14 years you had, they only got worse. A reason for them is larger heavier cars all agreed under your 14 year watch. you blame Labour but the truth is you need to clean your mirror.
@GMB@but_cyclists 14 years of conservative greed, public realized that and voted them out, so now they spout any crap to get some voters onside. It'll free orga$ms to all for every blue vote next. (not serious on the last bit but you get the jist)
@adamtranter Much more testing in differing settings, weathers, road conditions etc before they should be officially permitted to be fully driverless and then any incidents need to be independently investigated.
Wish the Bus driver that tried to squash me this morning would see this and realize how it's done. I bet when he saw my @passpixi he regretted that decision.
This excellent lorry driver waits patiently behind until there is a safe place to pass the cyclist.
He then overtakes giving plenty of space.
A wave of thanks from the cyclist and thumbs up from the driver.
Hats off to you sir!
Car makers solved one problem (for people inside) and created another (for people outside).
🚨 Here's why modern vehicle design is a pedestrian safety issue.
The intended function of an A-pillar is structural integrity. It keeps the roof and windshield where they belong in the event of a crash. SUVs and pick-up trucks (America's favorite vehicles) have been constructed with super wide A-pillars in recent years to protect occupants during a rollover.
But everything has trade-offs. While the SUVs and trucks now do better in rollover crashes, the A-pillars create significant blind spots for the driver. Some of these pillars are 3 times as wide as they were just 10 to 20 years ago.
When a driver turns left at an intersection or into a parking lot, the A-pillar can obstruct the view of pedestrians, cyclists, or other vehicles. Probably the most dangerous scenario is when a driver is turning left while someone is properly using a crosswalk.
When you're driving a modern vehicle, you need to compensate for the A-pillar: slow down and move your head around so you can see everyone outside your car.
