@katebattrick@tntsports Agreed. He’s absolutely awful. Sounds like a human chainsaw too - I have to turn the sound down. Keeps repeating the same “trivia” and constantly talking over his co-commentator which is infuriating.
📣 The 3rd WISER PASS National Synergy-Building Workshop (WPNSBW) will take place from 28–31 January 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya.
👉🏾The workshop will provide hands-on training on ICPAC products and services while building national partnerships on weather and climate information services among NMHSs forcasters📡, 🎤 media, Save the Children, and key sectors including disaster risk management (DRM), agriculture🌾, health, water🌊, and energy🔋.

@metjeffuk No reputable forecaster would (or should) ever communicate using a single ensemble member - at least without significant context. Since you have a voice and people listen to you, do better.
Good evening everyone
What a truly exceptional and dangerous evening of weather we’ve just experienced across Cornwall. This storm has delivered some extreme wind speeds, and this is very much a high-impact event, not just another windy night.
We’ve received credible reports of gusts exceeding 123mph near the Padstow area, with widespread reports of 90–108mph gusts across much of West Cornwall. Our own KWT weather station recorded a very strong 93mph, before also taking a bit of a hit itself. These figures put this storm firmly into the damaging and destructive category.
Unsurprisingly, we’re now seeing the impacts on the ground: 🌳 Numerous trees down, some blocking roads
⚡ Power lines brought down across roads
🏘️Widespread disruption being reported
🔌 Over 45,000 power cuts affecting around 85 areas at the last count
If you are planning to travel in the next few hours, please think very carefully. If your journey isn’t essential, delay it if you can. Debris, fallen trees, damaged power lines, and flooding in places make travel hazardous, especially in the dark and during ongoing strong gusts.
We also want to be open and honest with you all there may be fewer updates from me tomorrow. We’ve suffered some damage ourselves, and our weather station has taken a knock too, so we’ll need time to make things safe and assess everything properly. Safety always comes first.
Thank you, as always, for the huge number of reports, messages, photos, and support. Even when we can’t reply to everyone, it really does help us build the bigger picture of what’s happening across Cornwall.
Please continue to stay safe, check on neighbours where possible, and avoid exposed areas and the coastline.
More updates when we can.
Kind regards,
KWT Dave
@metjeffuk@Petagna No - the Met Office indicated close to the climatological average but with an increased chance of colder conditions compared to more recent years.
@Met4CastUK Tercile maps of seasonal 2m temperature don’t really make sense anymore, particularly when the earliest part of the climatology reference period is 30+ years ago.
@James_Athletics storms and torrential rain forecast for London on Saturday. As someone with a lot of experience, how does this weather typically impact such an event? Thank you.
@RARohde WMO VCP fund this type of work. Some NMHS in Africa are already working on digitising daily records, but it’s a slow process. I visited Djibouti Met Service a few years back and their largest operation was digital data archiving and resilience - looked like a tough job!
@IanTnf@BBCSport Thanks for the information. I thought the branding looked familiar. Perhaps even more surprising then, as I would have thought that style of commentating would put people off watching the sport - but I’m happy to be corrected.
The excellent Dr. Matazu from @ACMAD_org highlighting the importance of coproduction at Morocco’s National Climate Services Day. “When users and producers share the same table, good things can happen”.
“How do we get complex climate information to users? This is the gap we’re trying to fill.” Enjoying listening to the insightful Dr. Asuman from @GhanaMet at @DGM_Maroc_Meteo’s National Day on Weather and Climate Services.
