As a life long NYer and Knick fan, the rioting isnโt Knick fans. Itโs a bunch of punk criminals that are opportunistically acting like animals. As for the rest of your comments, just your opinion that you have every right to share. Just exclude the animals as Knick fans. Not NYC.
@nypdpc - I have lived here for 47 years. NYC is safer than the 80s and most of the 90s, but feels exponentially worse recently. Simple example - presumably a homeless man on 51st and 6th Ave, and busy work area, was in boxers screaming at people with a giant pitchfork. Yesterday I saw a guy in Tribeca get in the face of a nanny and child in stroller. Say what you want, but the crazies are going to wild, there is more of them, and the NYPD, to whom I respect, is turning a blind eye. Why? Because they get released regardless of criminal activity. Would love to hear an honest answer. This is no Bloomberg or Guliani NYC.
@NYCMayor I keep asking myself if the true goal is to get all real NYers to move? Can we take 4 years of this? For the good of NYC, I hope we can stick it out and win it back! Feels like we are living in a dark simulation!
@NYCMayor Why did you have 4 commercial Caterpillar machines cleaning snow and garbage at City Hall yesterday and none in Queens, The Bronx and Brooklyn? Same reason why you moved all the homeless tents from city hall but left them everywhere else?
@NYCMayor My Persian friends are celebrating. Who are you talking to @NYCMayor ? Seriously? Nobody left Iran to make a new life in America feels the way you apparently do.
1. People who pay taxes should benefit from those taxes otherwise there should be no taxes, hence programs like social security and medicaire. 10% of NYC residents foot most of the bill, so letโs be thankful not angry at them. They are NYers just like us. If you add non-payers to any system, the cost must go up not down and the system weakens. Itโs math not politics. No benefits should go to non Americans, and hence they can stay but not hurt citizens by not chipping in.
2. Run agencies like a business, which means you cut costs and eliminate inefficiencies. Fraud is a whole separate topic.
3. Benchmark vs other US cities - how are they able to deliver better results in education, safety, social programs, and overall cleanliness using less dollars?
@MarkLevineNYC@OnyxAurelius Then why did you back the current mayor who has policies completely contrary to your statement. Unfortunately two things canโt be true here.
Jobs are moving to other states, a trend that preceded the current Mayor but is being exacerbated by his rhetoric. In a world where the office isnโt as powerful, hence mobility is, lower tax states like Florida and Texas continue to brain drain higher tax states. This is not political, itโs not a theory, itโs a fact backed by years of data. NYC needs to be more competitive and cannot simply assume it will fix itself.
@LindseyBoylan He left NYC with a surplus, not a hole. How can it be the second highest tax jurisdiction with all the massive tax receipts & run a deficit? Too much free programming without good results. Just look at eduction. Easy to say tax the rich, but people need to look in the mirror.
@DougKass Have you looked at the comp of the SPY when 17 was average vs today? 25 years ago - industrials, energy, and banks were the Mag 10โฆtoday itโs mostly profitable tech/comm serv, + a bank and a hold-co. Maybe the SPY is overvalued, but what should it mean revert to? 20x? 19x?
@amazon - opened a package with 3 spray Clorox bleach, 1 was punctured. Clorox spilled on myself and ruined $400 worth of clothing. I spend $100,000/year between Amazon/Whole Foods for years. The max rebate I received was $25. Are you serious. Worst customer service ever!
