Steady on Essex Pat, you’re in an echo chamber with idiots like Don Monty. Burnham has done nothing to alarm you and his social care plans may help sad old gits like Don Monty. Most real Essex Patriots don’t think like you - as you’ll learn in the 2029 election
Well, it’s ok to disagree, Geoff. That’s the point. Max made the only sensible choice in 2024, IMO though disappointing so far. But it may - may - prove a winner . Try this from a Tory grown up:
Whether you choose construction, coding or classics, or maths, manufacturing or mechanics - Labour will build an education system where you’ll get the skills you need, and be given the respect you deserve.
NEW: Andy Burham sets out his plans for a national care service, telling his audience at a care home in London: "You probably have a feeling of deja-vu but don’t this time, because this time we’re going to do it."
1/ Louise Casey will bring forward her independent review into social care options by a year - it will now be published summer 2027: "If we have that independent review then I think we can rise to this challenge with the urgency it requires."
2/ ministers will immediately focus on social care workforce - fair pay agreement for staff will be "a massive building block" towards wider reforms to "lift up" workforce, bringing it closer to NHS standards & creating progress routes.
3/ wants cross party talks on plans: "Yes, I have been here before and yes, I do have some of the scars of that but it’s the right thing to do." PM says all sides have to "give and take" if a solution is to be found. "We're all going to have to listen to each other - something we don't do particularly well in politics. We're going to have to find common ground here."
This bloke?
Dosnt he just make you want to puke!
He’s connived to be in the position.
He now realises the flannel is over
He is making excuses already
Because he has no plan.
He’s just another Labour cunt!
As Andy Burnham gives his big speech on social care, what are the real challenges? Here’s our deep dive on the issue from earlier this month

If Andy Burnham is serious about putting politics aside to solve Britain’s biggest problems, it’s remarkable that he’s chosen to ignore Reform.
He is conspiring behind closed doors with the failed political establishment to foist further tax rises on the country.
The fact Ed Davey and Kemi Badenoch are going along with this tells you all you need to know. This is the uniparty in action.
@michaelwhite But he employed him for years FFS ….what are we to make of that & him…I’m afraid Hastings et al are fully responsible for allowing Johnson to prosper…
The Government must not cover their social care reforms with yet more taxes.
They're already facing a new £24bn black hole in their spending plans.
And taxes are already higher than at any point in living memory.
The last thing Britain needs is a new tax.
Third time unlucky for the Mail ? In 2010 Dacre College campaigned against social care reform promoted by health sec Burnham as “Death tax.” In 2017 Tory T May tried again, sunk by Mail as “dementia tax.” .2025 after further paralysis Mail can’t even think of new wrecking slogan
Meeting apprentices in Derby with @Andyburnham this morning.
We want more young people to have the chance to learn technical subjects from the age of 14 to take advantage of the jobs of the future.
Now… where did my hi-vis get to…?
@WasAcop Now would be a good time to Forensically Investigate @DavidLammy Legacy Expense claims up to present time as I find it too much of a coincidence that each year they Total so much but are also consistently between £150,000 & £180,000 whereby as working MP How! #ExtremeExtravagance
Whatever Andy Burnham thinks about welfare (does he think anything about welfare?)…
…reminder here, Labour MPs don’t back welfare savings.
In fact, they just want to tax people more - to spend more on benefits.
