This afternoon, I delivered my paperwork to officially be on the ballot as a candidate for Mayor of Des Moines. I was proud to share this moment with my kids, and I look forward to earning your vote. 71 days till Election Day!
The Senate is not in debate today—we found out shortly before 8am. Budget work is not done. Who knows what will happen tomorrow.
Last week we got the numbers for the Health and Human Services budget hours before debate, and it left out some really important needs:
Good news! The Iowa Supreme Court agreed with @ELPCenter, @Iowa_Env, @IABeyondCoal & @SierraClub, saying regulators should consider closing coal plants as an option when reviewing utilities' plans to cut emissions. https://t.co/RxUPrbISqK
Republicans in the Senate vote no to extending Medicaid postpartum coverage to 1yr.
44 other states have made this change to address the high rate of maternal deaths in the US.
AG and Natural Resources Budget passed by Republican Majority takes 1/3 of funding out of water quality research sends to IDALS soil conservation, eliminates acquisition goals from public land code section 465.1(2)(b).
It's appalling and extreme that the AG would stop providing emergency contraception to victims of sexual assault. If she won’t provide sexual assault victims with access to the care they need, I will as mayor.

Our small businesses have been leading the way in standing with our LGBTQ+ community. Thanks to @ScottSyroka for an important read. https://t.co/BXege5WxK0
I'm so proud to announce that I've received the endorsements of five fantastic Iowa leaders.
They know the importance of a bold vision, hard work, and determination. I'm honored to have them on my team.
