@robertmacIntos3@capitalweather Recency bias? DC is known for years of storms that underperform. Happened to get two events in less than a week that overperformed. -Dan, CWG
@DrShepherd2013 @DrShepherd2013 Wouldn’t a simple change to the cone of uncertainty for NHC to consider be to just not show a center track line until maybe ~48 hours before landfall?
Let’s be clear, this was botched twice. 1st when MLB rejected Nats attempt to postpone earlier in day based on stormy forecast. And 2nd when Nats/MLB postponed after many fans had arrived and radar showed chance of playing at least a few innings. @dougherty_jesse@capitalweather
Could you imagine with a hurricane approaching if we stopped collecting weather data or running forecast models because it was a holiday weekend? Our health system should be as automated as our weather forecasting system for 24/7/365 coverage. @DrShepherd2013 @DrLeanaWen
Incredible: Our US health system is so feeble there is no Covid reporting this weekend. Sometime around Tuesday morning they’ll turn the machines back on and look at the numbers? I predict further increases in hospitalization and HCW depletion, hope the system doesn’t collapse
@NateSilver538@NateSilver538 Why are these NYC daily hospital admissions different from the steeper increase in numbers and trend here?: https://t.co/mpUslNS171
Thoughtful perspective from @stillmand: How extreme weather & the pandemic have exposed fatal flaws in science communication
The rub: We have great science but lives are being lost due to gaps in "last mile" of communication between messenger & end user: https://t.co/bhLrZs3MGd
What the models giveth, they taketh, and giveth again... we're working hard to sort them out. Here's our latest write-up on DC's snow potential Saturday night and Sunday: https://t.co/uQbSxyTEEy

Bad news is, still much room for improvement in model forecasts of clouds, per horrible NAM hi-res and GFS forecasts for today (top two images on left). Good news is, recent upgrades to HRRR model might be paying dividends, per solid HRRR forecast (bottom left). @capitalweather
Side roads and sidewalks getting snow-covered in Rockville, but not too slippery, at least not enough to keep puppy from his first walk in the snow. @capitalweather

Looking to the west, these intense storms approaching DC, I-95 and Baltimore have storm tops over 30,000 feet, indicative of heavy rain, damaging winds and possibly hail. @capitalweather
