@intexcl Never known a deal be agreed as many times this one. Been agreed at least 100 x this month if all you ITKs are to be believed.
Agreeing bonuses and fees etc is not part of the formalisation of a deal
@JakeJackmann Yeah hopefully we have scope to significantly increase them too though. You’d expect Gordon, Tonali and Tripper + Bruno are 4 of our highest earners off the books
@ToonTakeover_ Seems promising, could be an exciting new era.
The bit about his refusal to abandon his principles & playing style even when it wasn’t working is being used as a positive here - it was biggest criticism of Howe for a lot of people though
@thereloadedgun@NUFCgallowgate Club to club talks, talks direct with PIF, agreements etc have been reported daily for a month. Most now proven to be lies
At some point deal agreed will probably become true. But the people pretending it has been, or has been close for weeks have been lying
@thereloadedgun@NUFCgallowgate God, what a tedious cunt you must be
Bold in that NUFC won’t deal below their valuation and that it isn’t done. I still am, but never claimed I’m ITK and could answer those
That’s been reported consistently NUFC end for a month. Whilst new offers, advanced talks, …
@thereloadedgun@NUFCgallowgate No idea to both but that was my original point, Rosser doesn’t know either. Putting 2 & 2 together with Howe going
Everyone keen to look ITK & be first with news. AFC accounts and journos have been posting similar to what he said today, daily for 4 weeks😂
@Kevkashi@benhatesnufc I don’t see people denying that he’ll be sold? They’re constantly reporting that it hasn’t progressed yet and sale will depend on AFC coming up with the money?
@thereloadedgun@NUFCgallowgate About what? We got what we asked for Tonali, Gordon and Isak, and the latter was injured and had been on strike for 6 weeks at the time.
No reason whatsoever to believe we won't hold out for our asking price here
Eddie Howe identified with and created the culture that the fans need at Newcastle. A team that gives everything and physically dominates games. A team that won the game in the first half hour with sheer intensity. Players who celebrated tackles. Players who connected with fans.
There was no greater example of this intensity than in the game against Liverpool at Wembley, which saw them lift the trophy.
Howe was getting the best out of all of his players.
With any manager, there needs to be evolution. Arteta spoke about keeping their best parts of the game while building on other parts. Howe recognised this also. The in-possession work needed improvement but could not be detrimental to the identity that Howe and Newcastle had created.
Therein lies the problem: the foundations were set to build on, but football doesn’t always work like that. Howe questioned recruitment at a club level. He wanted more control, but the manager's role does not now involve the time needed to recruit to the level needed. Newcastle need to improve the model. They can’t fish in the same sea as the big six, but neither seem to have the data and recruitment model that Brighton or Brentford have. Newcastle were losing their best players and replacing them with 4/5th choice players at a desperate time in the market while overpaying.
In looking to improve the in-possession work, Newcastle lost their edge out of possession. This was highlighted with Woltemade in a midfield role, a role that was epitomised by Joelinton. Champions League football meant less time on the training pitch and exploited the lack of depth in the squad.
Players who had peaked, Trippier a prime example, and gave the club their best moments started to decline, and that clear identity was questioned by players. Dan Burn: ‘We need to get back to being horrible to play against’.
It was a culmination of events where Howe has looked and thought - I can't control this.
The job is a huge one. The fans don’t ask for a possession-based team and manager. The identity created by Howe was in line with everything that Newcastle are about. They have to be careful with recruiting the right manager. Slow build-up, retaining on transition, may create more control, but there is an expectation up there that fits within a culture that wants an intensity and work rate that matches the values of the people.
@Im_RobM Yeah agree with all this. I think if it happened in May everyone’s attitude would be different as would look strategic. Optics of this are that it’s panicked and reactive
Also CEO etc need to stop making daft claims & instead lower expectations by admitting “transitional” period
@RichySouthern Yeah I noticed that too, but given what our issues have been with Pope and the data led scouting, I’d be shocked if we’d sign someone who wasn’t comfortable using his feet
