These children are not just listening and performing music they are connecting to something and feeling joy or an emotional outlet.

Whatever the music classes at the Hasan School at the Refaat Alareer Camp help provide to the traumatized, injured, or critically ill patients in our camp, it is a positive experience that is leading to healing by allowing a safe space to express anxiety and pain, and showcase talents and happiness.

Mahmoud Mohamed, a 36-year-old married father from Gaza, lives with his pregnant wife and their four children, three daughters aged 8, 6, and 4, and a son aged 1.5, in a torn, overcrowded tent that houses six people and offers no protection from extreme heat, bitter cold, or rain that floods the interior with water and mud. Their home was destroyed during the genocide, they have been displaced five times, and Mahmoud has lost his source of income. He suffers from a hereditary kidney condition that has caused recurring stones since childhood, requiring regular monitoring, tests, imaging, and laser lithotripsy surgeries, none of which are accessible now due to destroyed medical facilities and high costs (around $200 monthly), while contaminated water worsens his condition and brings severe pain. His wife is pregnant with their fifth child and will give birth in the same inadequate tent with no preparations or baby supplies. The three school-aged daughters lack basic school supplies and stationery (approximately $100 needed), and the family urgently requires winter clothing, blankets, clean water, and a sturdy new tent suitable for seven people (around $400) to survive the coming months. Despite his own chronic illness, Mahmoud says the deepest pain comes from watching his young children endure cold, hunger, and an unsafe environment he is powerless to improve.

Israa Khamees, a 30-year-old mother of three, lives with her husband and children, five people in total, in a rented tent in the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, where they pay $250 a month for a shelter that provides almost no protection against heat, cold, or rain. Since the genocide began, the family has been forced to flee seven times, moving from Shujaiya to Rafah, Khan Yunis, Nuseirat, Tal al-Hawa, and finally Maghazi, most of those journeys made on foot while carrying nothing but the clothes they were wearing. Israa’s husband was injured in a bombing and now has a serious hand injury that needs surgery, along with lung damage that causes air bubbles and makes breathing painful; because of these injuries he is unable to work. Their three children, all under ten years old, help the family survive by fetching water and doing other daily chores. Despite repeated displacement and ongoing hardship, Israa is trying to keep hope for her family, and donations would help cover rent, improve their tent, pay for her husband’s medical treatment, and meet basic needs for food and supplies.

Noura Salem, a mother and wife from Gaza, recently gave birth to her son, Abdullah, and now lives with her injured husband and three young children under a simple cloth shelter after being displaced multiple times. With winter bringing bitter cold, very little water available, and hunger affecting the children especially hard, the family struggles daily without basic items for the newborn, no diapers, warm clothes, or blankets. Noura is doing everything she can to keep her family safe and fed through these extremely difficult circumstances and urgently needs help with food, clean water, proper shelter, and essential baby supplies; any support, even small donations of 5, 10, or 20 euros, or simply sharing her story, would make a real difference.

Maryam Lubbad is a 24-year-old married woman living in Gaza with her husband, their 7-month-old daughter, her mother-in-law, and her sister-in-law in a small 40-square-meter rented house, for which they pay $200 monthly. Four months pregnant, she recently moved from a tent to this housing after heavy rains made tent life unsustainable during her pregnancy. The family has no employed members and depends entirely on donations for survival, having been displaced at least eight times during the ongoing genocide, with their original home completely destroyed. They urgently require assistance for food, clean water, warm blankets, and pregnancy medications, as the local soup kitchen provides only one meal on three days a week, forcing them to buy additional food, particularly important for Maryam to maintain a healthy pregnancy. She also needs funds for regular doctor visits, safe drinking water due to widespread pollution, and baby formula and diapers for her daughter. Despite losing her job and facing immense hardship, Maryam strives to provide security for her family and hopes for support to meet their basic needs and rebuild a dignified life.
