My sister is taking our 2 year -old niece shoe shopping and I told her “get her some light up shoes!” And with a straight face she said, “no because you can see light up shoes if there’s ever a school shooting.” What in the actual f*ck is happening to us as a society??
Another fantastic grand rounds! Thank you @peterjohns84 for taking the time to lecture on the diagnosis & stratification of “dizziness” & vertigo in the ED. We have become more confident in our HINTS assessment, BPPV treatment, & use of brain CTs because of it
We in medicine need to stop perpetuating the false dichotomy of comfort care vs. full treatment. It's perfectly reasonable to desire some minimally invasive treatments like IV antibiotics while refusing invasive procedures like major surgery. Let's be better.
Birthdays or major life events in residency can be lonely. Especially with no family nearby and negativity at work. But shout out to all my coresidents, coworkers, and far away twitter friends @gumbydoctor who texted or called. Y’all make life worth it 💜
My neighbor was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. His son has been one of my friends since 8th grade. Please donate to help them get through this horrible time. Anything helps 🙏🏻

He was a doctor.
New to the UK from Nigeria.
A short clinical attachment then onto the rota.
People started talking.
Judging.
One day, I asked if he was OK.
He began to cry.
Because here's the thing...
@londyloo I think understanding that there is a major difference between intelligence and access to care. You can be the smartest doctor, but if you can’t get imaging, you can’t get imaging. Don’t belittle the care we can provide in rural areas when it is a systems issue.
He was 4 days old when he died.
I placed a hand on my pregnant belly and a tear rolled down my cheek.
Even as doctors, it can be hard to say goodbye.
Stories that we carry forever.
Because in birth & in death, humanity is what connects us.
Treasure those moments.
END.
