Cycling is a leading cause of sport-related concussions globally. The bicycle STAR protocol rates a helmet’s ability to reduce concussion risk. @BEAMvt@IIHS_autosafety@strowson Read how the ratings were developed and how helmet design affects safety at

@alexniemeier Yes, all currently available helmets are rated here https://t.co/rNvRxxyIgg and the methods are described in this document https://t.co/wKLUn84q1j which is based on this peer reviewed paper to add rotational acceleration to our helmet evaluations in hockey https://t.co/VkDED0gIrE
A new $22.5 million grant from the @NCAA and @DeptofDefense is enabling the CARE Consortium to expand its scope to study the intermediate and cumulative effects of concussion and repetitive head impact exposure. https://t.co/X3k2UPh2ta
IT’S OFFICIAL! 🎉 @SCHEVnews has approved @virginia_tech's new undergrad degree program in biomedical engineering. The degree will focus on tech transfer, engineering fundamentals, and emerging healthcare problems. 🧬🔬👩🔬 @VTEngineering

Forget the fake Rolex watches sold on street corners. These days, most counterfeits are sold over the Internet, right into your home.

One of my all-time favourite papers. Only 18 citations, so I thought I should share. An MD cracked his knuckles for 50 years — but only for one hand. He concludes by calling into question other parental beliefs …

@WillStewNeuro@jennifer_wethe @DrEPieroth @bikeradar That link supports what I’m saying. We looked at data between 2005 and 2010. Most helmets in top performing group didn’t exist then, but we saw differences in what was out there. Link still shows revo performing better than vsr4. Bans helmets based on higher concussion risk.
@WillStewNeuro@jennifer_wethe @DrEPieroth @bikeradar Not true. When you account for exposure to impact and specific model (most studies don’t), you do see differences in concussion rates. See this study on football helmets: https://t.co/oZCDZ5nO8X
@WillStewNeuro@jennifer_wethe @DrEPieroth @bikeradar But there is also no real world data showing they don’t reduce risk either. Data that do exist don’t account for differences in exposure to crashes, helmet models, and, importantly, all the people wearing helmets that hit their heads and don’t need medical attention.
