AWS confirmed the Oct 20 global outage began 11:49 PM PDT (Oct 19), caused by a DNS resolution failure hitting DynamoDB APIs in US‑East‑1 (Virginia).
Impact: logins, payments, and syncs failed across 1000+ apps (Snapchat, Reddit, Coinbase).
