A Tragedy Never to Be Forgotten – 15 June 1991

A train traveling from Ludhiana to Ferozepur had just departed from Badowal station, near Ludhiana, when it suddenly came to a halt after a sharp application of brakes. It was around 9:35 PM, and the summer heat was at its peak. Passengers began looking out of the windows, wondering why the train had stopped unexpectedly.

At that moment, 10–12 terrorists armed with AK-47 rifles entered the train coaches. They took control of the entire train and began identifying Hindu passengers before opening indiscriminate fire on them. For nearly ten minutes, they unleashed terror and brutality, mercilessly killing 62 innocent Hindus. Many others were left severely injured and struggling for their lives.

Among the victims were numerous people from Jagraon and Moga who regularly traveled on this train for work. The atmosphere of fear was so overwhelming that many Hindu families were afraid even to visit the site of the massacre, as death itself seemed to be hanging over their heads.

After carrying out this horrific attack, the terrorists moved on to execute another act of terror. Their next target was the railway station at Qila Raipur. There, they intercepted another train traveling from Ludhiana to Hisar via Dhuri. Once again, they unleashed a reign of terror, brutally killing 48 more Hindu passengers.

The question remains: why do governments and organizations never speak about those killings? They were not Pakistanis; they were from Punjab itself. They allegedly crossed into Pakistan, received training from ISI, and returned to target and murder innocent Hindus.
