We have touchdown...AGAIN! 🌘
Yesterday the Vikram Lander fired up its thrusters once again to perform a little hop on the Lunar surface, becoming only the 2nd spacecraft to ever do so! 🥈
It lifted off, got to an altitude of only 40 cm and then landed again 30-40 cm away.
To safely perform this hop, the ChaSTE and ILSA instruments as well as the ramps had to be retracted and have been successfully redeployed after landing.
The reason for this hop was to test out aspects of future sample return missions and crewed missions to the Moon by ISRO!!

In-situ Scientific Experiments
Radio Anatomy of Moon Bound Hypersensitive Ionosphere and Atmosphere - Langmuir Probe (RAMBHA-LP) payload onboard Chandrayaan-3 Lander has made first-ever measurements of the near-surface Lunar plasma environment over the south polar region.
The initial assessment indicates that the plasma near the lunar surface is relatively sparse.

These quantitative measurements potentially assist in mitigating the noise that Lunar plasma introduces into radio wave communication. Also, they could contribute to the enhanced designs for upcoming lunar visitors.

In-situ scientific experiments continue .....
Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) instrument onboard the Rover unambiguously confirms the presence of Sulphur (S) in the lunar surface near the south pole, through first-ever in-situ measurements.
Al, Ca, Fe, Cr, Ti, Mn, Si, and O are also detected, as expected. Search for Hydrogen (H) is underway.

The solar panel on the Pragyan rover has been deployed!!⚡️
Next its antennas on the solar panel will begin communicating with Vikram before Pragyan is finally lowered onto the lunar regolith/soil! 🌖
