This is what has been keeping our @ICRC field teams in #Tigray busy these last few weeks ensuring that essential #humanitarian assistance, including food and medicine, is delivered to those most in need in Northern #Ethiopia.
New footage from #Tigray shows the devastating impact the conflict has had on healthcare.
Hospitals were damaged or destroyed.
Shortage of water, electricity, and medicine.
Healthcare staff struggling with hunger.

No one chooses to leave behind their home, their community, and their life.
On World Refugee Day, we recognize the strength of people forced to flee, as well as the hardship, loss and uncertainty they carry with them.
Civilians remain protected, at all times.
📍Myanmar | Amputee football in Kyaing Tong is redefining what inclusion in sport looks like. At the local Physical Rehabilitation Centre, supported by the ICRC, players are back on the pitch—training, competing, and proving that losing a limb doesn’t mean losing the game.
This is their story 👇🏽
They once stood as children whose lives were shaped by displacement.
Today, they stand together at the highest level of the game.
UNHCR’s Gamechanging Team ahead of the 2026 #FIFAWorldCup shows what’s possible when children forced to flee are given safety and opportunity.

“Deliberate threats, whether in rhetoric or in action, against essential civilian infrastructure and nuclear facilities must not become the new norm in warfare. I urgently call on parties to spare civilians and civilian objects in all military operations. It is their obligation under international humanitarian law.” Mirjana Spoljaric, ICRC President.

📍Myanmar | From the very first day and throughout the past year, we have supported families affected by conflict and earthquakes with both emergency aid and long-term assistance.
Ross Farmery, ICRC's head of subdelegation in Mandalay, shares 👇🏽
When wars are fought in cities, an estimated 90% of casualties are civilians.
Homes without families.
Schools without students.
Patients without medicines.
Hospitals without electricity.
Neighborhoods without people.
Heavy explosive weapons shouldn't be used in cities.
📍 DR Congo | After more than a year apart, Mafille is finally reunited with her mother, thanks to the joint efforts of the Red Cross in the DRC and the ICRC.
In Ituri, where armed violence continues to force families apart, those separated by conflict can still find their way back to each other ♥️
Talking to Congolese students from the
Institut Supereure Technique du Sankuru (ISTSAN) in Lodja, RDC about my experience working in the humanitarian sector, including in Eastern Congo, #DRC 🇨🇩
Today is the 80th anniversary of the UN. I started my humanitarian career over 14 years ago with the UN. While the UN and the humanitarian system are going through challenging times, we need a stronger multilateral system and reformed aid sector. #UNDay 🇺🇳
Hope 🇺🇳
Unity 🇺🇳
Diversity 🇺🇳
Possibility 🇺🇳

These are just some of the words that come to mind when people think about the United Nations.

Today marks International Day of the Disappeared.
Too many families in Ukraine still seek news about the fate or whereabouts of lost loved ones.
On this day, we share a story from Liudmyla, who is waiting for information about her grandson - https://t.co/6NxAncToib
Every year on 30 August, @ICRC mark the #InternationalDayoftheDisappeared to honour the countless people, who have gone missing in the context of armed conflict and other situations of violence, including in #Ukraine 🇺🇦 #IDOD2025 🙏🏼
For families of the missing in Syria & abroad, absence is everywhere. Even the smallest things evoke memories & the longing to see their missing loved ones.
@ICRC stands in solidarity with these families and in upholding their right to know.

📍 Ukraine | Another night of strikes. Another night of destruction and lives lost.
But no matter who, no matter where, the law is clear: civilians must be respected and protected.
The 30th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica is not only a moment of reflection.
It is a call to vigilance & action.
At a time when hate speech, denial & division are gaining ground, we must stand firm for truth & justice.
30 years on, I honour the Bosniak boys and men who were victims of the Srebrenica genocide.
I also honour the mothers who carry the weight of that loss for decades.
We must remember and preserve the truth, so that future generations know exactly what happened in Srebrenica.

Today is #WorldRefugeeDay where we pay respect to all those, who were forced to flee their homes + acknowledge the sacrifices of all those helping them to ensure that they are protected along their difficult journey. Thank you to all my friends & colleagues @Refugees@UNmigration
On #WorldRefugeeDay, we recognize the millions of people forced to flee war, persecution & disaster.
Becoming a refugee is never a choice.
But how we respond is.
Let's choose solidarity.
Let's choose courage.
Let's choose humanity.
Today is #WorldRefugeeDay.
I am spending it in Syria with some of the 600,000 people who have returned from neighbouring countries after 14 years of conflict.
Syria today is where returning Syrians — given security, opportunities and support — can finally stop being refugees.
Running refugee camps is not what unhcr is all about; there has to be political solutions stopping wars, enabling 123 million forcibly displaced people to return home under UNHCR mandate. Diplomatic dialogue with all parties to conflicts is only way to stop wars.
