NCUI signs an MoU with Kairali Agriculture Multi-State Cooperative Society, Kerala to promote carbon emission reduction in agriculture and provide additional income to farmers through carbon credit. The MoU was signed in the presence of Shri Dileep Sanghani, President, NCUI, Shri K V Asokan, Chairman Kairali MSCS, Dr. Sudhir Mahajan, Chief Executive, NCUI, Shri Pradeep, CEO, Shri Lateesh and other Directors of Kairali MSCS.

To kick-start community outreach activities under the NCUI - GIZ India project in Uttar Pradesh, Sumit Singh, Advisor (Strategy & Cooperation), NCUI, Dr. G P Singh, Member, NCUI Advisory Council and Abhishek Agrawal, Co-Founder, ISRA visited Sonbhadra and Jaunpur districts on 28th February, 2025. During the 4-day visit, the team had stakeholder meetings and training workshops at 6 locations. On 28th Feb, a workshop on agroecology and digital literacy was organised at the Rural Technology Park of Aditya Birla Foundation (ABF) in Muirpur town wherein 80 farmers and field officials were provided training on issues related to natural farming and sustainable horticultural practices, innovative rural technologies, NCUI Haat Portal, access to social welfare schemes,etc. In Renusagar and Robertsganj towns, over 60 women associated with ABF and State Rural Livelihood Mission were provided training on 1st and 2nd March on the formation of SHGs and cooperatives, new initiatives of Ministry of Cooperation and NCUI, digital literacy and successful training modules of NCUI Incubation Centre. On 4th March, the team visited Gaddi block of Jaunpur district to interact with Shri Indrasen Singh and other progressive farmers. NCUI team also had discussions with senior officials of ABF and leaders of cooperatives and FPOs to develop synergies for achieving objectives of the NCUI-GIZ project.
On February 19, 2025, CEDC, in collaboration with GIZ India, organized a high-level meeting at the office of the Chief Executive, NCUI to discuss the Automated Ice Reservoir (AIR) Initiative and other climate resilient approaches developed to promote ecology restoration. H.E. Mr. Lukmon Bobokalonzoda, Ambassador of Tajikistan to India, was the Chief Guest and Mr. Stanzin Chosphel, Hon’ble Executive Councilor (Agriculture) of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh was the Special Guest of the meeting. Mr. Ameya Sathaye, CEO & Editor-in-Chief, https://t.co/NoBzpeLuCf and Mr. Anil Singh, Senior Journalist and Convenor, Jal Prahari, Delhi were present in the meeting too.
Dr. Sudhir Mahajan, Chief Executive, NCUI welcomed the dignitaries to NCUI and highlighted the key initiatives taken by Ministry of Cooperation and NCUI for empowering the farmers and cooperatives. Mr. Rajeev Ahal, Director, Natural Resources Management and Agroecology, GIZ India gave a brief background of the projects being implemented by GIZ India in Ladakh.
Mr. Stanzin Chosphel gave a presentation on the AIR project being implemented by LAHDC with technical cooperation from GIZ. He stressed on the role of citizens and local in owning and maintaining the project in sustainable manner. He also sought support of NCUI to pilot and develop a network of cooperatives, such as home-stay cooperatives in lesser-explored villages, and replicate the AIR model in other villages.
Mr. Krishan Tyagi and Mr. Jagdish of GIZ India shared the photos and documents to highlight the impact of the project in enhancing the availability of water for agriculture and other purposes. Mr. Sumit Singh, Advisor (Strategy & Cooperation), NCUI mentioned the interventions taken by Himalayan Unnati Mission, HVT Foundation and other partner institutions to mobilize communities in over 60 villages of Ladakh. He also talked about the ongoing projects of Embassy of Iceland on geothermal energy in Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh for generating alternative sources of energy for apple growers and warehouses.
H.E. Mr. Lukmon Bobokalonzoda appreciated the efforts of LAHDC and GIZ India to conserve water resource in Ladakh. He discussed the severe impact of climate change on glaciers, rising temperatures, and shifting precipitation patterns which have disrupted livelihoods and employment in key sectors. He stressed on the need of urgent interventions by government and global agencies to scale up sustainability efforts and advocated for a transition to 100% green energy solutions, including solar and other sources of renewable energy to save glaciers. An important takeaway of the meeting was the consensus to organize stakeholder consultation workshops and field visits in Ladakh to meaningfully engage all relevant agencies and solicit their participation in projects related to ecological restoration and empowerment of communities in Ladakh.
On 30th January 2025, the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development & Cooperation (CEDC) of NCUI in collaboration with the Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS), Government of Assam, organized a consultation workshop to explore avenues of association for strengthening the cooperative movement in Assam. The Directors and members of more than 30 cooperatives and FPOs who are associated with organic agriculture, pearl manufacturing, handloom, and handicraft sector attended the meeting. Dr. Mahua Bhattacharjee, Research Expert of PMU established under NCUI-GIZ project welcomed the Registrar and other senior officials of RCS and introduced the agenda of the meeting to the participants.
Sumit Singh, Advisor (Strategy and Cooperation), NCUI talked about the initiatives taken by Union Ministry of Cooperation and NCUI to promote cooperatives and FPOs. He explained the significance of the initiatives like NCUI Haat e-commerce portal and Skill Centre of NCUI for providing access to new market avenues and upgrading the skills of the members of cooperatives. He also explained the strategy adopted by NCUI to foster partnerships with esteemed organizations like German Development Cooperation (GIZ India), HCL Foundation, Art of Living, etc. He also said that the NCUI-GIZ Project has been started to implement pilot projects at selected locations in Assam and other states to develop regional models of cooperative entrepreneurship.
Mr. Narayan Konwar, IAS, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Assam, commended NCUI’s endeavors in areas of skill development and facilitating business growth through NCUI Haat portal. He elaborated on the initiatives taken by RCS, Assam in upskilling youth to become entrepreneurs. stressed on the importance of fostering entrepreneurship among youth through cooperative development in 80 colleges of Assam. He sought support from CEDC to promote cooperative entrepreneurship among students and empower cooperative ecosystem in areas including integrated farming and women livelihoods.
Sumit Singh congratulated Registrar Sir for planning and implementing various measures for cooperative development. He highlighted CEDC’s strategic collaborations with esteemed academic institutions like Unnat Bharat Abhiyan of the Union Ministry of Education, T.A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) and IIT Delhi with an aim to empower students and budding professionals with entrepreneurial skills, encouraging them to apply their innovative ideas to strengthen the cooperative movement. The representatives of various FPOs and cooperative federations of Assam highlighted their challenges in getting access to online business and export market, design and technical support for upgrading product quality, branding and promotion, etc. Many cooperatives requested handholding support to enhance their visibility and expand their network.
It was decided during the meeting that officials of CEDC and RCS will exchange the relevant documents and information pertaining to cooperative development. Subsequently, the next meeting will be held to prepare a roadmap for cooperative development in Assam.

During the meeting, Pradeep Ji discussed the objectives and vision of the proposed Koral Multi-State Cooperative Society which is in the process of registration with technical support of CEDC, NCUI. Prof. G P Singh explained the new feed supplement developed in BHU which can revolutionise dairy business. The product is completely natural and its efficiency has been validated by NDDB after conducting all lab tests. President Sir appreciated the initiative and also explained the successful projects implemented by AMR Dairy and initiatives of Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development for promoting rural livelihoods through innovative solutions.

To kick off the series of activities planned for the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2025, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Cooperation (CEDC) of NCUI organised the first meeting of the newly formed Committee of Women Entrepreneurs (COWE) on 2nd January 2025 in the Board Room. 20 pass-out trainees of Incubation Centre who have now have become entrepreneurs were invited to attend the meeting. The agenda of the meeting was to define the objectives and role of the women entrepreneurs for incubating new ideas and steering various product development, branding and promotional activities for empowering the women artisans in Delhi and other states.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the occasion, Dr. Sudhir Mahajan, IAS (Retd.) Chief Executive, NCUI appreciated the CoWE initiative and motivated the members to contribute their level best in developing CoWE as a strong platform for supporting SHGs across India.
Sumit Singh, Advisor - Strategy & Cooperation of NCUI, highlighted the journey of Incubation Centre project of CEDC since its beginning in April, 2022 and how over 5000 women have been mobilised and 1500 women have been trained under the project. Many of the women entrepreneurs shared their stories of success and achievements too.
It is to be noted that CEDC has constituted CoWE to empower the women entrepreneurs of Incubation Centre for identifying appropriate solutions to the challenges faced by SHGs and planning collective efforts to promote their products.

The Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Cooperation (CEDC), NCUI, organized a stakeholder meeting on 11th December 2024 at the office of the Chief Executive, NCUI. The meeting saw the participation of officials from Himalayan Unnati Mission (HUM) of Art of Living, HVT Foundation, Orion International, Lions Club, ISRA, Shri Timli Trust and Samaarambh Foundation.
Welcoming the guests, Dr. Sudhir Mahajan, Chief Executive of NCUI highlighted the need to empower the marginalized sections of society through awareness about social welfare schemes and cooperative entrepreneurship. He explained the role of NCUI in fostering cross-sectoral collaboration for social change. Sumit Singh, Advisor (Strategy & Cooperation), NCUI explained the key initiatives of CEDC like NCUI Haat E-commerce Portal, Skill Development Centre and Incubation Centre which have played a key role in reaching out to the needy sections and providing them support through technology and market linkages.
Ms. Mahira Mehra, Co-founder of HVT Foundation, highlighted challenges in marginalized regions like Ladakh, emphasizing rural-urban linkages, women’s cooperatives, and holistic development. Ms. Anju Bahiri, Head, Institutional Partnership of HUM, advocated for a united Himalayan voice, focusing on social impact through digital literacy, policy advocacy, and collaboration with 114 NGO partners.
Mr. Abhishek Agarwal, Co-founder of ISRA and SPOC for NCUI-GIZ project, highlighted the impact of ISRA in providing benefits of government schemes to over 10 lakh people in the past four years. Mr. Devender Agarwal, District Chief of Lions Club, emphasized their independent, self-funded social welfare work, including 24x7 blood donation camps in collaboration with police and armed forces.
Mr. Bilal Hasan and Mr. Amit Sharma of Orion Group highlighted the role of their organisation in providing employment to the skilled workforce in India and overseas and running training programs in the field of security, nursing. They sought support from NCUI for building capacities of the needy youth and their international placements in Saudi Arabia and Japan, highlighting the need for structured skilling and language training. Mr. Ashish Dabral, Founder of Shri Timli Trust and FPO, mentioned the key initiatives taken in his village for tackling migration issue by promoting homestays, natural farming, and trade skills.
Dr. Mahajan advocated for creating a unified stakeholder platform with monthly reviews to have a coherent approach and bring synergy among stakeholders for achieving the shared objectives. Priority areas include certified skilling programs in trade skills, digital literacy, and language training to boost employment, along with awareness drives to ensure last-mile connectivity. Sumit Singh thanked all participants for their continued support.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh and the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) marks a significant step toward the development of the cooperative sector in Ladakh. The MOU aims to promote sustainable practices and improve livelihood opportunities for farmers, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), entrepreneurs, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and cooperative societies.
The primary focus of this partnership will be on key areas such as training, skill development, exposure visits, market linkages, and providing overall support. The sectors identified for special attention include agriculture, horticulture, handloom, handicrafts, and animal and sheep husbandry. This initiative is expected to foster economic growth and self-reliance in Ladakh by empowering local communities and enhancing their capacity to engage in sustainable practices while boosting their access to markets and opportunities for growth.
