The Illusion of the Quick Fix: Reclaiming Mutually Enticing Opportunities in Peacemaking.
Part of the Negotiation and Conflict Management Research (@iacm_conflict) Expert Perspectives on New Paths to Peace.
I finally had the chance to fully explore the practical implications of Mutually Enticing Opportunities (MEO), inspired by ongoing conflicts around the world and the inability (or unwillingness) of designated peacemakers to produce feasible, resilient agreements that endure over time.
The article takes aim at the illusion of the transactional quick fix, namely the inconsistencies and inadequacies of material incentives when it comes to delivering (durable) solutions for the most challenging conflicts.
Honored to join forces with such an illustrious group of experts: @remi_smolinski, Peter Kesting, @WilliamUryGTY, Joshua Weiss, @WADonohue, Martin C. Euwema, Fredrike Bannink, and Felix Merks.

Just got the news that the article on Emerging Trends in Peacebuilding: The Case of Colombia, has been recognized as top viewed/downloaded article in Global Policy journal!
This is another recognition of the cutting edge research with policy relevance we do at @SAISHopkins, as this was the framing article for the special issue we produced at @SAIS_MAGP, following our Global Residency in Colombia 🇨🇴 in 2022.
The article is open access, and can be found here: https://t.co/ZeQMQIExNj
And the entire special issue is also open access:

13 hours of sustained pressure to reach a resolution.🤝Cohort 11 showed incredible resilience during Day 2 of the Policy Simulation Residency. They mastered complex multilateral negotiations to build coalitions and find a mutually acceptable outcome. An impressive achievement!
Now, the negotiations begin. Led by Program Director Prof. Vukovic (@sumosika), the cohort is deep in their simulation, testing strategies, building coalitions, and learning what it really takes to reach an agreement under pressure.
Greetings from Baltimore! Our Cohort 11 kicked off their Policy Simulation Residency with a tour of @JohnsHopkins Homewood campus. It was a chance to connect with the institution's history before diving into the intensive work ahead.
Please join us on Monday, November 10, starting at 1 PM at @SAISHopkins for a special symposium celebrating the life and work of the late Professor I. William Zartman.
This event is a tribute to his incredible contributions to #conflictresolution, #negotiation, and international studies. We warmly invite everyone whose journey was shaped by his legacy. Whether you were one of his students, a colleague he worked with, or one of the many scholars, practitioners, and individuals inspired by his ideas, we hope you will attend. This will be a unique opportunity to reflect on his work, discuss its ongoing impact, and connect with the community he helped build. We hope you can join us.

Hot off the press 📖 / a new publication alert 🔊
After intensive research, collaboration, and editorship, @DoreGMD and I are thrilled to announce that our new edited volume, Good Governance in East Asia and Latin America: Emerging Trends and New Approaches, is finally published!
It is the inaugural volume in the Perspectives on Global Affairs, @SpringerNature book series.
This volume grapples with the evolving landscape of good governance by offering a timely and granular look at the #Philippines and #Chile. Drawing on extensive fieldwork conducted between late 2023 and 2024, the chapters move beyond theory to offer on-the-ground insights from a diverse and impressive group of contributors spanning the private sector, government, civil society, and academia.
We are also incredibly proud that this volume showcases the research excellence of @SAISHopkins. The chapters are substantially built upon the outstanding capstone research of our @SAIS_MAGP students, whom we had the privilege to supervise and guide throughout the process of turning their research into groundbreaking publications.
The volume scrutinizes some of today's most pressing challenges, including:
✔️ Democratic deconsolidation,
✔️ Constitutional reform and its discontents,
✔️ The struggle for Indigenous rights,
✔️ New frontiers in food security,
✔️ Horizontal inequalities and social unrest,
✔️ Complexities of maritime security,
and much more...
This volume offers fresh perspectives on good governance in an era of profound change.

My new interview with @NedeljnikVreme for their 35th anniversary print issue.
We explored the forces shaping our era: from affective polarization fueling violent populism (from both fringes) to stochastic terrorism & the rise of a polycentric world.

Congratulations to @sofiapaglia, winner of the Melchiorre Dore Memorial Prize for Cohort 10's best capstone! 🏅Her outstanding work explores exogenous securitization and cultural protection in armed conflicts, focusing on 🇵🇱 policies toward 🇺🇦cultural heritage since 2022.
My comments for @NedeljnikNIN, on why the relationship between Serbia's ruling SNS and its European partners is facing serious problems. The EPP seems less willing to continue turning a blind eye to the ongoing democratic backsliding.

Honored to be featured in @SRF Global's 10th-anniversary special, looking back at a "crazy" decade.
My interview is part of a program that also includes Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter & @ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.
