Uber picks me up. Asian guy. We don’t exchange words. Immediately puts on Frank Sinatra. He’s singing along, gradually increasing his volume. I join in. Eventually we’re singing at the top of our lungs by the end of the ride. I don’t even know his name.

Honestly, watching it on TV when I was a kid, it felt like something that happened in a different universe. I dreamt of racing it, of winning it, but I never for a second thought I would.
