Take a look at the footpath encroachment in Kadubeesanhalli, Bengaluru just about a km of ORR part of east city corp. The whole road is filled with such encroachments.

1. Bihar, now voting to elect its 18th state assembly, says with pride democracy was born here. That’s why PM Modi says India is the mother of democracy.  Democracy is Bihar’s greatest contribution to India, and India’s to the world. Which raises the question: How good has democracy been for Bihar? Where is its people’s democracy dividend?

2. The state of its society, people & economy shows it’s got nothing. No industry, tax revenues, or economic activity besides subsistence farming. Its per capita income is the country’s lowest. Its only productive activity is labour export, mostly for the lowest paying jobs in states with better economies.

3. Over generations, Bihar has lived by & fought for minimalistic expectations. Protection from feudal & upper caste oppression, 3 meals/day, basic law & order, electricity & some connectivity. Tragic when this is all you dream of in India of 2025. Oppn has promised a govt job to each of its 2.76 crore families. It isn’t a cruel joke. It’s the reality of Bihar even after 20 years under Nitish.

4. It is particularly tragic for a state with a deep, vibrant & audacious political culture. But for Bihar, there would’ve been no Gandhi. Would JP have risen to Lok Nayak status but for the people of Bihar, their political awareness & courage? Then, of course, there was Karpoori Thakur, who, along with the people of Bihar, built India’s first anti-Congress & also anti-BJP social coalition.

5. Bihar is blessed with a land more fertile for revolutions than any in India. Why has it fallen so far behind then? What’s the curse chasing it? Why do its revolutions keep eating their own children? The state that gave the world democracy, and India its Mahatma & Lok Nayak, & its social justice revolution, is cursed by politics of minimal expectation. It is a national tragedy.

-No levelling
-Paver blocks coming off
-Weeds growing around

The motorists are at fault here although not fully as the main Kadubeesanhalli road is closed and they are left with no alterna.
