🕯️ It is with profound grief that we at CMC Vellore mourn the passing of Prof. K.V. Johny — the Father of Kidney Transplantation in India. 🕯️
A giant has left us.
His legacy is eternal.
🧵 A tribute to a legend: 🙏🏻
In the late 1960s, Prof. Kaivilayil V Johny trained in renal transplantation at Adelaide, Australia. He returned with a mission, and changed Indian Nephrology forever.
On 2nd February 1971, Prof. KV Johny & Prof. Mohan Rao performed India's FIRST successful kidney transplant at CMC Vellore — a defining moment in the history of Indian medicine.
He founded the Department of Nephrology at CMC Vellore in 1971 - the first of its kind, and launched India's first DM Nephrology training programme, seeding a generation of kidney specialists across the nation.
Under his leadership, CMC Vellore became the gold standard for nephrology & renal transplantation in India.
He was not just a clinician — he was a builder, a teacher, and a visionary who trained nephrologists who now lead kidney care across India and the world.
"A visionary who opened the doors of kidney transplantation in India and transformed the future of renal care."
Rest in peace, Prof. Johny. CMC Vellore and Indian Nephrology will forever stand on the shoulders of your life's work. 🙏

#RedSalute to Comrade V. S. Achuthanandan (1923-2025). Former Chief Minister of Kerala, a lifelong Communist, and member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Comrade VS has died. His spirit inspires us.
@catale7a@theliverdoc I can understand why all these pseudoscientific healers are offended, but why are all these 'stock bross' getting hurt by @theliverdoc posts..
Since the current world believes MBBS is just a gate for NEET PG, answers may list here as NO! However if you consider it as part of learning and grooming as a doctor and person, it is YES! You are what you see, hear, experience and are surrounded by! If you are here for शिक्षा (learnings) yes it matters and if for परीक्षा (enterance test) it doesn't! As an examiner we can differentiate very easily the level of impact of an institution! It takes years to build an institution! Why AIIMS still the first choice? Teachers and teaching make a difference! The college doesn't matter narrative is set by low ranked colleges and coaching websites!!

@rjVACHAS One of the most absurd reasons I have ever heard, for not to choose DNB/DrnB. Tweet should have been 'one of the many reasons to "take MD/MS in your own state government med college" would be.....
