Press Release: Update on At-Risk Missing Juvenile Katie Hong
On July 25, 2025, at approximately 8:55 p.m., Fremont Police personnel were dispatched to a report of a missing juvenile Katie Hong, who was reported missing from the family home. Katie is a 16-year-old female Korean American, approximately 5' tall and 100 lbs, brown eyes, with braces and dark brown hair. A note, believed to be authored by Katie, was left behind. The note expressed an intention of “running away” and to potentially meet with individual(s) known only by online screen names. The note indicated the people would not provide her with their true names, and it does not appear that Katie met these people prior to her being missing.
Katie was seen on multiple surveillance cameras walking alone from her residence on Queens Park Court on July 25th between 6:11 p.m. and 6:21 p.m. to Irvington Community Park, referenced in the note. She was wearing a large, red backpack and carrying what appeared to be a desktop computer. The last time Katie was seen on surveillance video was walking through the gas station on the corner of Blacow Road and Grimmer Blvd, walking south towards the Irvington Community Park.
The Fremont Police Department Crimes Against Persons Unit authored multiple search warrants and court orders. The last location of record for Katie’s phone is at Irvington Community Park around the time depicted on video surveillance. Investigators believe the phone was left behind at Irvington Community Park. Information obtained through search warrants and court orders has not yielded information in learning who Katie may be with or her whereabouts. Further, analysis at this time does not suggest Katie has had previous physical encounters with these online screen names. Based on the cumulative, verifiable evidence at this time, Katie is believed to be voluntarily missing.
Investigators continue to work with Katie’s family to identify all potential investigative leads to identify her location. Additionally, investigators are applying all available law enforcement resources to include license plate readers, online search tools, and surveillance footage, and partnering with federal agencies on this missing person investigation. Prior to her being missing, Katie was very active on various digital platforms, including gaming platforms, and used multiple screen names on these platforms. Since being reported missing, investigators have not located a digital footprint that was left directly by Katie.
Please help us bring Katie home. She is at-risk missing based on current circumstances. Anyone with information regarding this missing person investigation, please contact the Fremont Police Investigations Unit at (510) 790-6900. We also accept anonymous tips.
