On the Occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

Today, we bear witness of atrocities not seen in decades, inhumane acts of devastation and cruelty on an unimaginable scale perpetrated in plain sight with utter impunity.

Every minute, innocent lives are lost and children are orphaned while babies are massacred in cold-blood. Families lose their homes and their lands, hospitals, and places of worship are bombed, and the elderly are humiliated.

Generation after generation of young people continue to face a bleak future, as their oppressor continues with their apartheid policies and brutal campaign policies of ethnic cleansing.

This politics of dispossession must end now.

The argument of self-defense cannot be allowed ot justify indiscriminate bombings, killings, and wounding of men, women and children. Starving Palestinians of food, water, and basic medical needs are clearly war crimes.

The International Solidarity Day is again a painful reminder that after 75 years, Palestine has yet to be freed from the brutal occupation.

It is a bitter pill to swallow that a just, fair and equitable solution is yet to be found. New and old generations of Palestinians are haunted by the horrors of the Nakba of 1948.

Strong and resolute action urgently needed to end the horrendous bloodletting and barbaric and hateful atrocities committed against the Palestinians.

The UN Security Council must fulfill its duty to maintain international peace and security.

All Member States must adhere to the relevant UN resolutions and uphold the principles of the UN Charter. Israel must be held accountable for its blatant violations of international law.

Malaysia reiterates its support towards the State of Palestine's request to gain full membership status at the UN. Access must be granted to all UN-mandated bodies to the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).

As a member of the UN Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices (SCIIP) and the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP), Malaysia will continue to contribute towards their work in fulfilling their respective mandates.

Malaysia remains unwavering in its support of the Palestinian cause, demonstrating a commitment to justice and compassion and recognising the enduring struggle of the Palestinians in their quest for freedom and self-determination based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
