In a significant step towards improving the welfare of seafarers, senior officials from the Directorate General of Shipping met with key representatives from the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF). The ITF delegation included Mr. Steve Trowsdale, Mr. Mohamed Arrachedi, FOC Network Coordinator for the Arab World and Iran, and Mr. Jonathan Waring, Senior Legal Adviser.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in an in-depth discussion on pressing issues concerning the wellbeing and rights of maritime workers. Key topics included safety measures, better working conditions, protection against unfair practices, and ensuring that seafarers receive proper legal and financial support in line with international maritime standards.

The DG Shipping officials reiterated their commitment to safeguarding seafarers' interests and ensuring that India's maritime sector remains compliant with global norms. ITF representatives expressed appreciation for India's proactive stance on seafarers' welfare and highlighted the importance of continuous collaboration to tackle ongoing challenges in the industry.
