My top four career tips for young scientists asking how to best prepare for a future career in the biomedical sciences:
1) Learn to code
2) Learn to code
3) Learn to code

I admire the courage of those who are fighting for positive change and encouraging the school and the mormon church to treat people with more dignity and respect.
Last night several students at BYU lit up the Y on the mountain near the school as a rainbow. This time last year BYU officials told students that homosexual behavior defies their honor code despite official wording being removed due to pressure.
It leaves many students worried that they could be kicked out of school for doing something as benign as holding hands with someone of the same sex. The school has suspended countless students in the past for honor code violations.
I highly recommend this short article to help understand why lifting restrictions right now will increase the spread of the coronavirus.

Reducing spread of the virus with safety measures like masks & occupancy limits will give us time to innoculate more people and reach herd immunity before the virus can mutate into more vaccine-resistant strains (and if you don’t know the term herd immunity please look that up).
@thephdstory Death of grad school for me during the pandemic. I’m a mom (single mom now) and had to leave my program to take care of kids academically and financially... 😢
My son and his team are trying to beat a record for a high school team by launching a liquid fuel rocket 50,000 ft! They could really use your support with any small donation you can offer to help them finish their rocket and travel to the launch site:

I’m exhausted from work and parenting and hoping I have energy to watch clips of the inauguration tomorrow, but I’m smiling because we have a woman, a woman of color as VP... and it’s about damn time.

It’s always nice to hear when someone I helped to mentor in lab is going on to great things. Makes me proud, and so nice to have something positive to think about right now.
@sarah_shapley My PI recently said that the most successful leaders are not micro managers. I tend to agree, and he is a great example. Also, being patient and empathetic with work & personal challenges, and brainstorming solutions instead of putting you down is huge to me.
Ok, I don’t hate working from home part time, I’ll admit it. I actually get to use my crockpot during the week, eat lunch with my kids and switch loads of laundry in between work. I have high hopes for this roast.
@McKnightLab_UO It’s got to be difficult putting this out there, but I appreciate being able to read your journey. Peace and love from Texas, to you and your family.
As my kids start day 1 of online school I feel lucky that my mentors & leadership at UTD have been patient & flexible with me while I balance kids and graduate school. Hoping more people & organizations work to reduce gender inequality during the pandemic. https://t.co/TZuh3mK0Oh
