🚨 Please RT and encourage Maastricht University to stop promoting bad science.

😞 We're disappointed to see @MaastrichtU taking a step back and promoting ineffective, outdated, cruel, and unethical methods in science (see comments).

🐁 Results from animal testing can be misleading and not generalizable to humans, meaning it harms humans as well.

Once you cross species barrier there will be external validity issues that you can never overcome with animal testing.

⏩ Even when drugs are shown to be 100% safe in other primates they can cause severe reactions in humans and potentially kill them (TGN1412 drug trial for instance).

🤔 Will we learn something new when we test on animals?

Sure, we learn something new with any experiment. But the question is how valid and applicable those results are in humans and in what cost are we getting these results?

☠️ At its core, it's also cruel, and I say that as someone who was involved in preclinical research for cancer, infectious diseases, and inflammation.

🙄 Let me tell you something that no one else would from inside. When they talk about animal testing they always show you a cute mouse just like what they did here in their original post.

The truth is even if they try to cause less pain, it's still a torturous process for animals.

🙈 Imagine being genetically manipulated, born in captivity, taken away from your parents, getting injections or being handled by experimenters everyday, living your life in isolation and in constant distress and depression, with infectious diseases, burns, cancer (so consistently in pain and distress), and then getting killed.

Imagine that be your experience from your precious life.

I always say if you won't give me your pet to do this to them, then you already know animal testing is unethical.

In a very simple and basic experiment tens to hundreds of mice or other animals have to be tortured, to become a figure on a paper like the picture shown here.

Can you imagine the life those animals had while they were developing those giant artificial tumors?

😞 All of this torture to get results that will not be applicable to humans, unless by accident. Yet the alternatives are actually human relevant and safe.

✅ If good alternatives don't exist, the aproach should be to fund more research to develop better alternatives, not to continue an outdated and cruel tradition.

Better alternatives are safer, faster, and cheaper. Better for us, better for other animals. Win-win.
