With proper form to protect joints and back, never too late to add resistance bands, body weight exercise (push-ups, squats, pull-ups, burpees) and weights to your exercise routine. I did when I turned 50! 3/3
Conceptually, I agree with this and over time have talked to my cardiology patients more and more about adding resistance exercise to traditional “cardio.” Avoiding falling, avoiding injury and being able to get up are keys to independence in older age. 1/
Of course there is some correlation/causation issues — well people can exercise and chronically Ill people lose muscle mass - similar to the obesity paradox. However within a range of health, muscle mass/strength appear protective. 2/
