@Jennamaisa I totally agree! I had a similar takeaway from the class and I like how you included the benefits it has given us for our future careers! #UTcommtheroy
(1/2) My biggest takeaway from this course was the true importance of communication and understanding how individuals take in and respond to information. I have learned how, from culture to culture, and even just person to person, people communicate differently.
(2/2) This theory really made me realize how many of the things we’ve learned throughout this class are things we often subconsciously do. #UTcommtheory
(1/2) I think the Uncertainty Reduction Theory is the most memorable for me. I enjoyed learning about the ways humans seek to reduce uncertainty, in order to become less uncomfortable when communicating with someone they do not know well.
@jer850736715657 I 100% agree. I mentioned a similar concept in my post and it’s honestly scary how much social media platforms (more like the people behind them) find out about individuals and their interest and use it to keep them engaged and hooked. #UTcommtheory
(3/3) so I definitely can identify gatekeeping within my own social media experience. These platforms 100% try to keep me engaged and even addicted, and sometimes it honestly works. #UTcommtheory
(1/3) I absolutely think Agenda-Setting Theory is still relevant. I hear so many people talk about seeing things on social media and believing it without any further research. Seeing things on Tik Tok and receiving it as news is a big one.
(2/3) Our psychology of what we believe and what draws us in is constantly used against us on social media platforms like this, in order to make us believe what we’re seeing is the truth. I have seen things pop up on my feed that I’ve recently talked about or show interest in…
@MattKlacik06 I completely agree that this conflict is very big in the media right now and there are so many different sources giving different information. Between Tik Tok, Instagram, etc. there are so many posts going around about this and it’s 100% shaping the public agenda. #UTcommtheory
(1/2) Recently a documentary came out about the abuse of child actors on Nickelodeon by adults who directed and/or produced the shows. This blew up on social media, as multiple of the children affected were a huge part of many people’s childhoods.
(2/2) It’s a very dark and horrifying series and has brought awareness to the safety of child actors, along with sexual assault as a whole. There are many Tik Tok videos, like the one I’ve attached below, going around that have drawn attention to the issue as well. #UTcommtheory
@Abb6122Abbott This is so funny! I love that you had a dream about being his wife, lol. No need to worry, I’m sure many of us have been there! #UTcommtheory
(1/2) Ariana Grande is a media personality that I have a parasocial relationship with. I absolutely adore her and have for many years. I don’t think too much about or anticipate meeting celebrities, but Ariana I definitely want to meet.
@fordlsophia It makes me scared too! It’s so upsetting to think about so few people receiving such a large amount of money, considering how many people in our country could desperately use just a tiny portion of it. #UTcommtheory
(2/2) I chose this GIF because it represents my reaction when seeing Amazon owns over 100 businesses and has a net worth of nearly $2000 billion. #UTcommtheory
(1/2) I chose to research Amazon. A fact I learned was that the headquarters is in Seattle, WA. There is also an expansion of it in Crystal City, Arlington, VA which I did not know. These buildings are beautiful and actually do look like crystal towers.
