@annaluvsflo Hi Anna, I agree it is cool that people went out of their way to study these ideas and theorize them. It is helpful in understanding how communication works around us. #UTcommtheory
My biggest takeaway from this course was that media highly impacts relationships and communication. There were many different theories that discussed medias role in communication habits including the media multiplexity theory and agenda setting theory. #UTcommtheory
@fordlsophia Hi Sophia, I also found this theory interesting and thought it was a great way to understand how family communication plays a role in our lives. #UTcommtheory
The theory that was the most memorable for me was the social penetration theory. I relate to this theory because when I first meet someone I am very reserved, but as soon as I'm comfortable I am an open book. The example of peeling back layers of an onion is great. #UTcommtheory
@BoldenDani80815 I completely agree that it seems like apps are hiding certain things or making it so we only see certain sides of a story. It's crazy to think about what we may not be seeing. #UTcommtheory
I believe the agenda setting theory is still relevant today. For any platform to have control over what the audience is seeing, means that they are being shown what to think about. I see many videos on Tik Tok about topics that are so strongly skewed daily. #UTcommtheory
@jer850736715657 Hi Jer, this is a very interesting example that I have never noticed on Tik Tok before. Now I'm wondering how many times I've overlooked a potentially fake video like the one you used. #UTCommtheory
A recent example of how media has shaped the public agenda is the way people on Tik Tok discuss candidates for the upcoming presidential campaign. There are many polarizing opinions for every candidate and uneducated Tik Tokers are quick to share their opinions.

@nahla_badr39347 I totally agree that media is unbelievably repetitive. It makes it hard to choose a service to use as they all start to have similar downfalls! #UTcommtheory
The media company I chose to research was Hulu. An interesting fact I found out was that Disney now owns 67% oh Hulu. This gif represents how I feel about concentrated media because with companies joining together, they all start to seem the same which is annoying. #UTcommtheory
@UTisaiah This is something that I've seen many of my friends do on multiple occasions. They always panic a little when they realize they've slipped up. #UTcommtheory
This meme represents Instagram being my "front stage" identity where I am usually putting my best self out there. It also shows Snapchat being "back stage" where I show my more authentic self. #UTcommtheory
@Abb6122Abbott Misinformation was definitely a huge issue during the pandemic. I remember hearing so many different crazy stories about the pandemic on apps like Tik Tok from completely unreliable sources. #UTcommtheory
A way that current communication technology positively influenced our experience during a pandemic was the ability to transition to online schooling. Even though classes could not meet in person, we were able to use zoom to have lectures from home. #UTcommtheory
