My biggest take away from this course is that you can take any idea & theorize it whether it’s interpretive or objective. I love that some concept or idea mattered enough to someone to research and make a theory out of it. #UTcommtheory

My favorite theory from this course is family communication theory. I feel passionately about taking control of the way you communicate and interact regardless of what you were taught, so it felt important to me! #UTcommtheory

(1/2) I believe the agenda setting theory is very relevant today. I think that although we do have more immediate access to information that lessens gatekeeping, media is still a very prominent, fast and opinionated resource for knowledge of news. I tend to notice #UTcommtheory

@halannah_222 I relate to this so hard but with One Tree Hill. I can’t stop watching every time I’m feeling any type of heavy emotion 😂 it brings me so much comfort in the weirdest way. Hearing about parasocial relationships made me feel SEEEN haha. #UTcommtheory

A parasocial relationship I have is with the whole cast of One Tree Hill. I’ve seen all 9 seasons probably 13 times and used to have a note file saved of quotes from the show. It was a mile long. I feel like I grew up with everyone on the show. #UTcommtheory

I chose to research Netflix. What I found interesting about Netflix is that it was originally operated as a mail-order service, mailing DVDs to customers with a prepaid return envelope in the late 1990s! This is how I feel about concentrated media. #UTcommtheory

A negative impact that current communication technology had on our experience of COVID-19 was the absurd amount of fake news, scare tactics, and overuse due to boredom. I think there’s such thing as over-communicating & the news did a lot of that during the pandemic #UTcommtheory

I’m a member of lgbtq and the communication orientation that I’ve engaged in is making sure I dress more femininely around certain people to not “give away” my sexuality. This is aggressive assimilation dissociating by conforming to societies view of straight women #UTcommtheory
