Last year’s biggest downfalls came from closed source, centralized projects. We’re making progress at holding the ecosystem to a better standard but there’s still more we can do. @yezhang1998 wrote a piece on how @Scroll_ZKP is building:
0/ In light of the upcoming Goerli permissionless Testnet of @Scroll_ZKP I chatted with Scroll's co-founder @yezhang1998 on HODLong. This is one of the most inspiring conversations I've had lately.

We met the Scroll team through the open source community a year ago, and was truly inspired by their global coordination efforts as we watched them develop a zkEVM at break-neck speed. Juggling transparency, high security standards, and efficiency is not an easy feat, and in this community spirit we are building a series of open-source developer tools from L2 compatibility tools to L2 Notify (launching soon!!) and welcome all devs try our product.
zkEVMs are public infrastructure. we have to let go of the mindset of it being a product built by a company and consumed by users. Ye brings up some important questions that we need to keep thinking hard about.
An excellent thread and a big shoutout to @yezhang1998. A broader trend being seen in the crypto space as it stands today is the flippant use of the terms "community" and "decentralization". In many cases, they are memes for the purpose of virtue-signaling.
A community-driven approach is more than open-source. It’s build in the open and build with the community. It’s inviting and inclusive. It’s part of our culture and part of our value. It’s how we learn, how we share, and how we build together!

The ethos of the Ethereum community is built upon the core pillars of security, decentralization and transparency.
Our zkEVM is the product of an entirely community-driven effort with the aim of building towards a scalable and secure future for Ethereum.

We chose to inherit the mindset of the Ethereum community to encourage builders to collaborate and contribute to our open-source codebase right from the get-go.

By building in a collaborative and community-driven way, our zkEVM merely becomes an extention of Ethereum, enabling the worlds most secure and decentralized settlement layer to progress forward and fulfil its final vision.

Was great to talk about the state of ZK and where it's headed!
Massive compliments to @PennBlockchain for the whole weekend and to @dylankugler for bringing great questions.
