PhD student @ UQ, BS-MS @ IISER-K, tries to take things lightly 😉, has pretty decent expertise at spending a fair bit of time doing effectively nothing 😄
We are advertising a 4-year #PhD position on "Quantum Photonics in Space and Time," deadline Jan 15, 2024. Open to all nationalities with funding for UK Visa costs. Applications from women and minorities in Physics are especially encouraged. Please RT! https://t.co/OShMA3yThl
@SurAnubhab then someone might just say that they are using a single mode laser which would mean it has both single spatial mode and single spectral (frequency) mode 🤪
@SurAnubhab the system under consideration is important here (essentially implying different eigenmodes)... spatial modes for a light beam in free space are different from that in waveguides
#CQC2T seeks a PhD candidate to design, analyse, and implement novel techniques for controlling quantum systems under realistic conditions, which will eventually be tested on quantum hardware.
An exciting opportunity to join us at our @RMIT node.

It is just a reflection from a glass prism to impose a correlation between the x and y coordinate of a light beam leading to a position-position classical entanglement.
Our recent study demonstrates this.

Tip: For PhD supervisors in Australia whose international students are experiencing incredible delays (~9 months?!) in visa processing, you can fill out a Form 956 and be able to inquire about the visa. Took me an hour to get that tip, use it #AUacademia

Optica student chapter of IISER Kolkata follows up its tradition of webinars at the advent of light's own festival - Diwali. Looking forward to hearing more about spaceplate (the name itself is pretty awesome, isn't it? 😃)
On the occasion of the upcoming festival of light: 'Diwali,' the OPTICA student chapter of IISER Kolkata welcomes you to the webinar on "Spaceplate: A plate that replaces space and its use to compress imaging systems" by Prof. Jeff Lundeen.

Bohemian rhapsody for postdocs:
Is this a real job?
Or more like a PhD?
Caught in short contracts
No chance of stability
Open your eyes
Look up to PIs and see
I'm just a postdoc
I get no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
Stress is high
Pay is low
@pj_bord Aah...Brings back memories of my struggles in the group theory course offered by DMS which actually made it easy for me to grasp the maths in this chem course "Group theory and Spectroscopy" (offered to us in 3rd year) 😅
PhD selections are very unpredictable, and one must not lose hope even after rejections. The only hope is to keep doing research, and improving your skills and profile. Do give this thread a read.
