My son came to me with some news.
He told me Dolly Parton had died and I said I knew.
And then he got quiet for a second and said she loved me. She used to send me a lot of books.
I had to just look at him for a moment.
He was talking about the Imagination Library. The program where Dolly sends books to children every month from birth until they start school. Millions of kids across the country get these books.
My son believed that Dolly Parton personally knew him. That she had specifically selected each book, thought about him individually, put it in an envelope, and mailed it to our house every single month because she loved him specifically.
Not as part of a program. Not as one of millions of children. But because she and my son had a personal relationship and she was devoted to his literary development specifically.
And honestly when you think about it from a child's perspective that's not even an unreasonable conclusion. Books showed up every month with her name attached. She clearly cared. Why wouldn't she know him personally.
I didn't have the heart to fully correct him in that moment.
Because also he wasn't entirely wrong. She did love him. She loved all of them. She just loved a lot of children at once and had a very efficient system for showing it.
Rest easy Dolly. My son misses you personally.
The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share. Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts.
What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis. 🦋
I will always love her and want to make her proud. My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply. We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things. 💖 @dollyparton
I really loved Dolly Parton‘s music, but I love what she did for literacy even more. that woman gave away thousands of books and helped thousands of children learn to read and continue their love of reading. she will always be iconic for investing in education in that way
Dolly Parton was one of the great entertainers of our era. She was not only a talented musician & songwriter, but a lifelong philanthropist and advocate for literacy, education, LGBTQ+ rights, healthcare and disaster relief.
Her music and humanity touched millions. She will be sorely missed.
sanitary pad ads have RUINED period care by convincing women that the periods means jumping, running, climbing mountains and working out heavily.
periods come with pain, fatigue, mood swings and discomfort and body needs REST.
pad absorbs BLOOD. It doesn't absorb the PAIN.
In a week where the nation should be united for the Scotland NT you’re reminded there’s absolute weapons out there that live amongst us. Saddening tbh.
Were they complaining when there was an extra Bank Holiday for the Queens Jubilee, or the extra Bank Holiday for the Kings Coronation?
No... course not.
The plan is that there is no plan.
Love Martin O’Neill to bits but being the permanent manager at 74 years old, when 9 months ago he was essentially retired, tells you everything about how Celtic is run.
Brendan Rodgers was banned for calling officiating against Hearts “incompetence” and “really poor”
Derek McInnes has named Steven McLean for a poor decision against Motherwell and called this one “disgusting and expected to be given”
Imagine the difference it must make if you’re trans and having to live through constant debates about your own existence - to now have representation at the highest level.
Proud of our wee country 🫶🏻🏴
The final results are in. It's a pro-independence majority of 73. That's the largest number of pro-independence MSPs ever elected to the Scottish Parliament.
625k people voted SNP on the regional list. It returned 1 MP.
383k people voted reform on regional list. It returned 17 MPs.
Did people not learn from previous election? A monumental waste, & im certain if folk voted for another pro indy party that reform number is lower too.
