Most “critical thinking” instruction is cargo-cult pedagogy. Critical thinking is largely what domain knowledge looks like while being used. You cannot teach students to reason deeply about subjects they barely know.

@justinskycak @eleanoir I taught a general ed critical thinking course and in my opinion it is fine for making students more self-aware about whether their reasoning conforms to certain generally accepted norms of deductive and inductive reasoning. Not sure what you mean by calling it a cargo cult?
