BREAKING: A First responder in the Texas mall shooting pours water over the bullsh*t GOP narrative:

“It wasn't mental health that killed these people, it was an automatic rifle with bullets,” he said.

“Prayers and condolences won't bring these people back. We need action in the federal and state legislatures for better gun control,” witness Steven Spainhouer told MSNBC.

“I’m saying this as someone who loves guns….I'm a former police officer. I’m a former Army officer.”

Spainhouer rushed desperately to aid those wounded and dying after shots rang out a little after 3:30 p.m. May 6.
He said the victims had such horrific injuries that they had to be loaded into police cars because ambulances would not have gotten them to nearby trauma facilities fast enough. 

He also said he also found a child, who survived while covered by his protective mother who had been killed.

Ultimately, Spainhouer says what he witnessed Saturday will haunt him for the rest of his life. 

Now, he’s calling on Congress to DO SOMETHING.

Newt Minow was a dear friend, mentor and early supporter of mine. He also embodied the ideal of public service – helping launch the satellites that made nationwide broadcasts possible, cementing presidential debates as a national institution, helping usher in public television, and reminding the media of its obligation to foster a well-informed citizenry.

I will always owe a great debt to Newt, most of all because he helped introduce me to Michelle when we were both young lawyers in Chicago. We will miss him dearly, just as we miss his beloved wife, Jo, who passed away last year, and send our love and thoughts to their family.
