Thrilled to share my first paper from my PhD thesis project, published today on @MolecularCell !We repurposed a miniature Type I-C CRISPR-Cas3 system into an efficient large-scale DNA deletion tool in human cell. RNP /plasmid/ mRNA delivery are all available!
Really enjoyed this thread on this exciting manuscript.
Excited to see SHRED-seq, built on our compact Nla CRISPR-Cas3 system, being applied to tackle fundamental yet complex genetic questions.
Congrats to Jonas and all the authors!
1/n What fraction of the human genome is essential for cellular viability?
Excited to share our preprint that explores this question by combining an unusual CRISPR system, phage promoters, and thousands of deletion launchpads.

We are hiring postdocs. If you are passionate about using iPSC, CRISPR screens, organoids, and multiomics to understand cardiovascular disease and advance precision medicine.
New synthetic biology / molecular recording lab opening in the New York city, and we are hiring at all levels (research tech / grad student / postdoc), so please reach out to me via choij10 _at_ https://t.co/anoNaP7TYN!
To my friends on Twitter. I'm happy to announce I will join @UTHealthHouston Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as a tenure track assistant professor from Dec 2022. We are hiring at all levels (postdocs, lab manager, and techs). Help me to spread the word :)

Had a great time at biochem retreat by beautiful Gull Lake.

Harnessing power from a thermal vent archaean: P. fur Type I-A Cas3 & Cascade form an integral effector complex. Its DNase activity is only turned on when target is found. It has robust deletion-editing activity in human cells, and is an excellent nucleic acid detection platform
