as someone who was born in NYC (Morningside Heights) with fond early childhood memories in the city and neighborhood and had impactful years of my adult life living in the city, I feel immense pride seeing Darializa's win.
I grew up non-religious but LOVED that church which is truly a place that pushes forth the idea of faith as honoring humanity and being on the side of justice. I would listen to hymns there. I used to make believe it was a magical cast-like place called The Rose School
while I'm here I'll do what I can to contribute positively to helping the community, taking actions to make changeand resist the corrupt negligent 'leadership' in this city and hateful presidential admin. but I think my time here will be up not long off in the future
more and more it's become ever more clear to me that my best work is still to come and that my life/creative future is not in LA or possibly even the US.
@offbeatorbit I say this toward able-bodied folks without chronic illnesses who are able to step out of their homes safely-just not understanding why those folks take to twitter to complain and make excuses for why they can't go anywhere. as someone else mentioned libraries = great too!
@offbeatorbit yeah truly. the replies are bonkers! bad faith responses. as a person dealing in daily life with having ADHD, anxiety disorder and depression I can say going outside helps a lot. have people not heard of the idea of taking a walk and that being free. or parks??
not sure if it's because I'm less personally invested but this Mexico vs. South Korea game has been less exciting to watch than the Iran vs. New Zealand game which was thrilling
staying in and watching the Mexico v South Korea game at home on tv like an antisocial loner instead of going to the outdoor watch party happening in the neighborhood because I don't want to risk breathing in the likely still polluted air from yesterday's fire...
solidarity with the community of Boyle Heights who have had people kidnapped by ICE, loads of pollution in the air and now worse air quality due to this warehouse fire, lack of sufficient shade due to not enough trees, scummy landlords, and lack of care/negligence from the city
PARTICLE POLLUTION ADVISORY EXTENDED (Thursday, June 18 - Friday, June 19):
