A message from Linthwaite Football Club. This is Benjamin, he refereed a Cup Game for one of our U11 Teams on Sunday. ⚽ Unfortunately, throughout the game he experienced abuse from Adults of the Away Team shouting at him & challenging every decision. The situation was approached by our Club Secretary, who was then later heckled by the Away Team’s Adults as they continued to question the young referee.😢

How are children & young adults supposed to learn and enjoy what they do, when they are made to feel so small by adults. 🤯

As a club we try our best to provide children & young adults with opportunities to develop via football. 🤝

With this, we have a number of Referees who are under the age of 18, learning their trade & doing their bit to ensure children can play football. These referees wear a Yellow Grassroots Football UK U18 Referee Armband, so spectators & coaches know they are a young adult. 💪🟨

As a club we do not accept this behaviour, if you can’t support our young adults please don’t come and stand on our sidelines! 😡
