Frantz Fanon’s take on why colonisers hated the hijab and made removing and discouraging it one of their utmost priorities:
“Unveiling this woman is revealing her beauty; it is baring her secret, breaking her resistance, making her available for adventure. Hiding the face is also disguising a secret; it is also creating a world of mystery, of the hidden. In a confused way, the European experiences his relation with the Algerian woman at a highly complex level. There is in it the will to bring this woman within his reach, to make her a possible object of possession. This woman who sees without being seen frustrates the colonizer. There is no reciprocity. She does not yield herself, does not give herself, does not offer herself.”
(From Frantz Fanon’s ‘A Dying Colonialism’)
The butchery in Sudan, atop the horrific starvation we have been seeing, demands the world’s outrage.
We’ve seen little coverage in Canada.
We have an obligation as Canadians to support those who need our help the most.

Israel is not a deviation from Western values.
It is the fulfillment of them.
The supremacy. The impunity.
The mythology of innocence layered over permanent domination.
These aren’t bugs. They’re features.
And when people say "Israel shares our values," they’re not wrong.
The question is whether those values deserve to survive.
Likely raped to death.
A doctor. A stellar surgeon. The embodiment of Palestinian ethics.
Likely raped to death.
The racism of Western media who are not covering this, and Western politicians who are not denouncing this, together with the thousand other testimonies and allegations of rape and other forms of mistreatment and torture that Palestinians have suffered in Israeli jails, is absolutely sickening.
I just learned that if I do not have a physical health card in Canada then I am not covered for treatment - if my children move provinces to study, even though they are Canadian citizens they may not have health benefits… why is this??? explain @WabKinew@chenjen@CBCTheNational
Battle for history
India’s complex history cannot be wished away through textbook revisions – it must be confronted. Education must empower students to question, investigate, and understand the past.

as a concerned Manitoban expressing deep disappointment for the decision to raise the Israeli flag at Memorial Park
Memorial Park should be a space for reflection, unity, and respect—not a site for political endorsements @WabKinew@ScottGillingham
New York Times published a video, obtained from the phone of one of the 15 Red Crescent and first aid victims killed by the Israeli army in Rafah, that exposed the lies of the Israeli army and showed that the ambulances were clearly marked and visible before they were shot at.
Utterly devastating to hear the victim’s words read out by an @nccm spokesperson. My heart goes out to her & to her family.
Every Muslim woman who wears hijab will once again be looking over their shoulder, praying they won’t be targeted. This situation is unacceptable.
Heartbroken Palestinians pray over some of the victims of the recent Israeli massacres in Gaza, including innocent children and women killed while asleep after Netanyahu's government resumed the genocide.
On the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia, I honour the six men killed and the many others who were injured as a result of Islamophobia.
The green square is a representation of solidarity with the victims and survivors, symbolizing the green carpets of the Quebec City Mosque, where the victims last stood to pray. Eight years later, we continue to fight against Islamophobia. We must all stand together against all forms of hate.
Today and always, I stand in solidarity with the Muslim community to eradicate islamophobia and address growing challenges of hate and racism in Canada.

If the @liberal_party wants to rebuild trust and stay true to its values, its next leader must take Palestinian human rights seriously. In today’s @globeandmail, Michael Morgenthau and I explain why this is a defining issue for the party’s future and outline key policies—from recognizing Palestine to upholding free speech—that the party must embrace.

A few days ago, CBC host Natasha Fatah interviewed a Canadian Palestinian who lost family members in Gaza.
Fatah censored the guest’s usage of the term “genocide” to refer to the mass death in Gaza, for the past 15 months.
Fatah had no business doing do, even according to the CBC’s own editorial standards. Here is the CBC’s retraction of what happened.
No journalist or news outlet has any right to censor Palestinians from speaking the truth about what is happening in Gaza.
As Canadians, we are alarmed that Manitoba PC leadership candidate, @Wally4Leader, chose to repost the message “we must stop Muslim Obby Khan from becoming Conservative Leader.”
Targeting @obbykhan60 solely because of his Muslim faith, as implied in the statement, is a clear example of Islamophobia.
Divisive language like this should not be tolerated and is damaging and hurtful to all Canadians.
As January 29th approaches, a solemn day when Canadians remember the senseless loss of six worshippers to terrorism, it’s vital for Mr. Daudrich to publicly apologize for spreading divisive rhetoric.
We also ask the PC party of Manitoba and the Leadership Election Committee to denounce this type of rhetoric.
Manitobans and Canadians must stand united against hate and fear-mongering. Unity, not division, defines us.
