This has to continue from Carrick. Yes, Sabah are nowhere near a Premier League team, but it’s more about the balance and dynamics.

He used the 3-2-5, with the left back providing the width on the left, the left winger in the left half-space, the 10 in the right half-space, and the right winger remaining wide, while the right back takes a more conservative position initially before joining dynamically. It’s exactly the model he had at Middlesbrough.

Compare that to the 4-2-4 double false nine approach he has used in the Premier League. It requires a lot more mobility to arrive in positions. You don’t have a fixed 9, both strikers drop into midfield, and with only 4 players in the last line, someone constantly has to arrive. You also lack numbers in the box. Overall, the references end up being too unspecific, and the players lose clarity in execution.

They get much more stable references and better balance in the 3-2-5. This has to be the way forward in-possession for United.

Mazraoui is occupying the positions that Mbeumo should be in most of our attacks. Carrick needs to correct that.

🚨 Michael Carrick is making things difficult for himself.

🗣️ The options are already there:

• Mazraoui can play RB and replace Dalot.
• Dorgu can play LB , his natural position, and replace Luke Shaw.
• Leny Yoro can play CB and replace Lisandro Martínez or Maguire.
• Cunha can play from the left if Rashford comes off.

So why keep experimenting?

Why bring Yoro on at RB when you have Mazraoui?
Why play Dorgu as a LWF when LB is his natural position?
Why move Mazraoui to LB instead of keeping players in their strongest roles?
And why continue using Cunha as a striker when Šeško is available?

Sometimes Carrick is making the game harder than it needs to be.

Players perform at their best when they are comfortable and understand their role. You don't need to constantly reinvent the system when the squad already has players capable of filling those positions naturally.

This is no longer pre-season. These are points that matter. Every unnecessary experiment carries a risk, and if it doesn't work, Manchester United pay the price.

Use players in their best positions. Keep the balance. Stop overthinking it. 🔴
