After a nap and a surf it has finally settled... I defended my dissertation, and I am a newly minted PhD!! What an honor to have worked alongside @BradMoore_SIO and the @moorelabsio for the past 5 years. Thank you to everyone who supported me on this journey.
So proud of Dr Taylor Steele @taysteele_! She packed the lecture hall today @Scripps_Ocean and shared her 5 years of passion, wisdom and accomplishments on the genomic & chemical wonders of algae. Congrats!
Who at the university made a difference in your life? For Liana Alves, it was Assistant Professor Alina Schimpf, "Alina Schimpf gave me the support to grow. It was okay to make mistakes, ask questions and give bizarre and strange ideas."

Similarly, I will be graduating in June after defending my PhD and will be looking for industry positions in San Diego! I am a protein biochemist and molecular biologist w/ strong skills in sequencing, bioinformatics, and high-performance computing. Let's connect!
As a shameless plug, I'll be looking for industry positions in San Diego after I defend my PhD in May so please feel free to share this paper and my info widely. Cheers!
So proud of @ScienceSiren_ and the whole team! Amazing to see this work out in the world and share an interesting story centered around biosynthesis in eukaryotes.
Very stoked to see my 1st first-author paper out in world! For a long time it's been assumed that all sponge-derived natural products are made by microbes, but we found that the sponge animal actually makes terpenes. https://t.co/KDZ7EwkSrs
Vanadium-dependent haloperoxidase enzymes have always fascinated us @moorelabsio for their biosynthetic dexterity. We're delighted to finally share some beautiful structures in @BiochemistryACS https://t.co/Y9KoJMDgm4
Kate Bauman researched marine microbial natural products at Scripps w/ @moorelabsio, earning a PhD in #MarineBiology. She was awarded the Frieman Prize for her work detailing how a marine bacterium makes an anti-cancer molecule. ๐ Now, Kate is headed to @Stanford as a postdoc!
