1- The United States has never been truly energy independent and never will be in any meaningful sense.

2- Energy markets are global. When global oil prices rise, they rise everywhere — including in the US — even if America is a net exporter of crude oil or petroleum products.

3- Price controls (like the disastrous ones imposed in the 1970s) don't protect American consumers from higher costs. If energy prices surge overseas, the cost of everything the US imports — from chemicals and plastics to finished goods — will still go up."
