Congratulations to Percival Everett on his Longlist @TheBookerPrizes nomination for his enthralling and ferociously funny novel, James 🥳 wishing him and all the nominees the best of luck.
Gauteng stories: In Joburg the central library has been closed for years; look at poor Emfuleni library - also a fuck-up. And the Council signs tell you everything. Gauteng ‘government’ oversees these as it’s only a set of municipalities. I know failure’s hard to look at, cadres.
So many countries have figured out how to create sustainable or amicable coalitions without having to create a GNU. It screams of "no one has a planned out policy agenda to negotiate what the legislative agenda will be" and "all we want to do is distribute positions🙄"
It’s abominable & angering, that every day in South Africa we wake to a woman killed by a partner. It’s outrageous, and frustrating and needs to stop. 💔💔
How is this so normalised?! How is it daily?! Daily?!
South Africa is my second home. I am proud of the way the elections have been conducted. So much to learn for Zimbabwe and the whole of Africa. Democracy is a messy thing but South Africans have made Africa proud. Tolerance, Maturity, transparency, accountability.

Watching whole grown up 'journalists' not making their first question to Duduzile Zuma: "why the f*ck did you actively encourage & outright commit treason against our democracy in 2021?"
Or at the very least, 'will stealing from Makro be official MK policy?'
Ignore the 15% party. They sat on the liaison committee. The two BIG parties (even though 40 % & 25 % is by no means BIG) must coalesce, activate security measures and preserve the stability of the country.
I am so devastated to hear about the death of Tshidiso Moletsane, the author of ‘Junx’ which won the Sunday Times Prize for fiction in 2022. I met him at The Franschhoek Literary Festival last year, and enjoyed his company. He was so young with so much more to offer ☹️
Neil, the SA polity is difficult to navigate, but it must be helped with some honesty. Your message misleads voters in that RISE does not support pro-poor policies. We DO. We just do not use the language and mechanism you prefer.
An engagement and consultation collectively would help us ensure we understand the varied approaches better so that we can all work towards eradicating poverty and inequality in one generation.

This speech. My eyes welled up. It’s not just a vote. For me, it symbolises & expresses my heart, mind & my hardly given, trust. I was heart hardened & closed, mistrusting of all. I have softened it & with trust, opened it to hope. Do not break it. So I, too, say, Rise, Mzansi 🇿🇦
Ah, Songz ❤️ You did it my brother. So many have a dream, never follow through or bring it to life. You’ve done more than that & sure have given them a run for their money. You have been this election’s disruptive moment. So proud of you, @Makashule & the RM team. Final stretch.
What makes stories “literary”? It’s a full venue as the audience looks forward to Georgina Geddes asking authors @almackay, @ShubnumKhan, @AmyHeydenrych and Craig Higginson about their “textually transmitted disease” - that is, the desire to write. #KBF24
@ShubnumKhan (The Lost Love of Akbar Manzil), in discussion with Farai Mudzingwa (Avenues by Train), Sven Axelrad (God's Pocket) and Joseph Howse (Girl in the Water), considers the interpretation of the literary voice. @KingsmeadBF@ExclusiveBooks#KBF24#KingsmeadBookFair2024
#Kabelo’sJoburg full with piles of steaming garbage. You will not believe the inner city today @CityofJoburgZA - my God! This is ANC-EFF government as I have come to know it. Run by the Al Jama-ah mayor (two seats). This is not the dignity of our Constitution.
